India: 86-year-old woman raped in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 8 (PTI) An 86-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a man in a secluded area in south west Delhi's Chhawla area, police said on Tuesday.

The accused Sonu (37), a plumber, is a resident of Rewla Khanpur. He has been arrested in connection with the incident, they said.

The incident took place on Monday evening when the elderly woman was on her way to a nearby village. On the way, she happened to meet the accused who offered her lift on his two-wheeler, a senior police officer said.

India: Woman raped by school chairman in UP

Noida (UP), Sep 8 (PTI) A 20-year-old woman was allegedly raped by the chairman of a private school in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida, following which the accused was arrested on Tuesday, police said.

The incident took place in the accused's car last Friday in the Ecotech 3 police station area, they said.

"The complainant had met with the 35-year-old chairman of the school recently because she needed a transfer certificate (TC) for her younger brother, a Class 8 student," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Women Safety) Vrinda Shukla said.

India: Govt selling country's assets 'shameful': Rahul

New Delhi, Sep 8 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday accused the Modi government of selling the country's assets to recover its economic losses and described as "shameful" reports of the sale of stake in Life Insurance Corporation (LIC).

"Modi ji is running the 'Sell Government Companies' campaign. The country's assets are being sold one by one to make up for their own economic mess," he said in a tweet in Hindi.

India: Wanted Naxal terrorist arrested in Jharkhand

Giridih, Sep 8 (PTI) A wanted Naxal leader was arrested in Jharkhand's Giridih district, police said on Tuesday.

Manoj Ray, who was carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh, was arrested in a raid at a village in the Pirtand police station area on Monday, a senior officer said.

He was wanted in several districts for years, the officer said, adding that dozens of cases were registered against him.

When produced at a court, he was sent to judicial custody.

India: HC stays demolition of Azam Khan's resort

Allahabad, Sep 8 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday stayed the demolition of a resort of Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan in Ramgarh till a decision is taken on his appeal.

The order was passed by a two-judge bench of justices S K Gupta and Piyush Agrawal on a petition filed by Khan's wife Tazeen Fatima against the order of demolition by the Uttar Pradesh government date August 27.

It is alleged that the resort is built on government land.

Counsel for the petitioner said the appeal would be filed within two weeks from today.

India: Rhea Chakraborty shifted from NCB office to Byculla jail

Mumbai, Sep 9 (PTI) A day after the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested her, Rhea Chakraborty was on Wednesday shifted from the anti-drug agency's office in south Mumbai to the Byculla jail here.

Shortly after her arrest on Tuesday in a drugs case linked to her boyfriend and actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death, she was sent in judicial custody till September 22 by a local court.

On Wednesday, she stepped out of the NCB office at 10.15 am after spending the night there and was taken to the Byculla jail by the agency officials.

India: Harassed by in-laws, Guj woman kills self, two children

Dahod, Sep 9 (PTI) A 32-year-old woman allegedly threw her two children into a well before committing suicide due to harassment by her husband and in-laws at a village in Dahod district of Gujarat, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place in Nana Sarnaiya village, where Saraswati Damor allegedly threw her three-month-old son and five-year-old daughter into a well before jumping in herself on Tuesday, an official from Fatehpura police station said.

India: Kangana Ranaut lands in Mumbai amid protest at airport

Mumbai, Sep 9 (PTI) Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut landed here from her home state Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, amid protests by Shiv Sena workers at the airport over her remarks on Mumbai police.

Kangana, who flew from Chandigarh by a scheduled commercial flight, landed at Mumbai around 2.30 pm.

Sena workers with black flags were seen outside the airport, shouting slogans against her.

India: HC asks BMC to stop demolition work at Kangana's bungalow

Mumbai, Sep 9 (PTI) The Bombay High Court on Wednesday stayed the demolition process initiated by the BMC for illegal construction at actor Kangana Ranaut's bungalow here and sought to know why did the city civic body enter the property when the owner was not present.

Justice S J Kathawalla was hearing a petition filed by Ranaut challenging the notice issued by the BMC for illegal construction at her bungalow. The petition also sought a stay on the demolition process.

India: DL section may shift to new ARTO office in Panki

Kanpur: Planning to transfer the driving license section of the existing ARTO office in Sarvodaya Nagar is in the process.

Presently the ARTO office exists at Sarvodaya Nagar in Ward no 64 while the new office is going to be built at Panki in Ward no 50.

Talking over this change the ARTO (Admin) Sanjay Singh said there was a plan to shift the DL section to the new office where the testing track equipped with the sensors were ready for the needed purpose.
