India: Over 90,000 COVID-19 cases recorded in single day

New Delhi, Sep 6 (PTI) India's COVID-19 tally of cases went past 41 lakh with a record 90,632 people being infected in a day, while 31,80,865 people have recuperated so far pushing the national recovery rate to 77.32 per cent on Sunday, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The total coronavirus cases mounted to 41,13,811, while the death toll climbed to 70,626 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 1,065 lives in a span of 24 hours in the country, the data updated at 8 am showed.

New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh has retained the top position in the ranking of states and union territories (UTs) based on the implementation of the business reform action plan, according to a report released by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday.

Uttar Pradesh and Telangana were placed at the second and third place, respectively in the ease of doing business for 2019, prepared by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, which is scheduled to be completed by December 2023, may fail to meet its deadline due to the coronavirus pandemic that has led to delays in opening tenders and land acquisition, officials said.

India: Punjab CM tests negative for Covid-19; ends self-isolation

Chandigarh, Sep 5 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Saturday tested negative for the coronavirus infection.

This was the third time that the chief minister had got himself tested for Covid-19 since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Singh also ended his week-long self-isolation after testing negative for the contagion.

The CM had gone into seven-day self-quarantine on August 28 after he came in contact with two Congress legislators, Kulbir Singh Zira and Nirmal Singh, who had tested positive after the one-day Punjab Assembly session.

India: BJP condemns Sena protests against Kangana

Mumbai, Sep 4 (PTI) The BJP on Friday condemned Shiv Sena protests against actor Kangana Ranaut even as the former distanced itself from her remarks likening Mumbai to PoK and stating that she feared the metropolis' police more than the mafia.

The women's wing of the Shiv Sena had carried out protests against her in Mumbai and Thane, and had shouted slogans as well as slippered her photographs and effigies.

India: Odisha BJP MLA arrested, released on bail

Baripada (Odisha), Sep 4 (PTI) A BJP legislator of Odisha, Prakash Soren was arrested on Friday for allegedly abusing and physically assaulting an assistant executive engineer at the Circuit House here and was later released on bail, police said.

Soren, MLA from Baripada, was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged at the Town police station here by the assistant executive engineer in Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Mayurbhanj Superintendent of Police Smit P Parmar said.

India: MNS asks police to charge Kangana Ranaut with treason

Mumbai, Sep 4 (PTI) A day after Kangana Ranaut courted controversy by comparing Mumbai to Pak-occupied-Kashmir, the film wing of Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Friday said she should be charged with "treason".

Ameya Khopkar, who heads the MNS film workers union, said they will not tolerate Ranaut's comments about Mumbai Police.
