India: Locusts enter Chhattisgarh forest area from MP

Raipur, Jun 1 (PTI) Swarms of locusts have entered a forest area in Chhattisgarh's Koriya district from the neighbouring Madhya Pradesh state, prompting authorities to intensify efforts to tackle the menace, officials said on Monday.

So far, no damage to crops or trees has been reported due to these short-horned grasshoppers, which have been killed or driven away by spraying of pesticides, they said.

India: Two naxal terrorists killed in encounter with police

Raipur, May 23 (PTI) Two Naxals who were involved in deadly attacks on politicians and security forces and carried cash rewards on their heads were on Saturday killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, police said.

The gun battle broke out at around 12:45 pm in forested hills near Mankapal village under Gadiras police station area when a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) and District Force was out on a counter-insurgency operation, Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P told PTI.

India: Two naxal terrorists killed in encounter at Dantewada

Raipur, May 21 (PTI) Two naxals, carrying cash rewards on their heads, were gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district on Thursday, police said.

The shootout occurred at around 2.30 pm in a forest near Neelguda village under Gidam police station area, where a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on a counter-insurgency operation, Dantewada superintendent of police Abhishek Pallava told PTI.

India: Contractor held for helping naxal terrorists

Raipur, May 14 (PTI) A construction contractor was arrested in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district for allegedly supplying foodstuffs and other essential materials to naxals for last three years, police said on Thursday.

Nishant Jain was arrested by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Kanker district police which was probing Maoists' urban support network in north Bastar, they said.

So far 12 people have been arrested in the case.

India: CRPF jawan killed in Chhattisgarh Naxal encounter

New Delhi, May 11 (PTI) A CRPF jawan was killed in an encounter with Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Monday, officials said.

They said the encounter took place in the Uripal forest area of the district at about 2 PM when a team of the Central Reserve Police Force and district reserve guard of the state police was out for a search operation.

Constable Munna Yadav, 32, of the 170th battalion of the CRPF has been killed in action, they said.

The deceased hailed from the Sahibganj district of Jharkhand.

India: Woman set on fire after she resists molestation

Korba, May 8 (PTI) A 27-year-old woman suffered serious burn injuries after she was set on fire by three men when she resisted their molestation bid in Chhattisgarh's Korba district, police said on Friday.

The incident took place on the night of May 6 at a village under Bango police station limits.

The accused were arrested on Thursday, said Pankaj Patel, Sub Divisional Officer of Police, Katghora area.

India: Man hacks mother, sister to death in C'garh

Bilaspur, May 7 (PTI) A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly hacking his mother and sister to death in Chhattisgarh's Mungeli district on Thursday, police said.

Anil Yadav brutally attacked his mother Sunita (45) with an axe, following an altercation at their home in Ramgopal ward in Mungeli town, located around 100 km from state capital Raipur, an official said.

India: Woman Naxal terrorist killed, two cops injured in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Apr 29 (PTI) A woman Naxal was killed and two police personnel were injured in an encounter in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Narayanpur district on Wednesday morning, an official said.

The exchange of fire broke out in a forest under Chhotedongar police station limits around 8 am, when a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) was out on a counter-insurgency operation, Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg told PTI.

India: Shops reopen in several Chhattisgarh districts

Raipur, Apr 25 (PTI) Shops selling agriculture-related goods, building materials and automobile parts among other things opened on Saturday in many districts of Chhattisgarh except those located in COVID-19 containment zones and inside shopping complexes, officials said.

The Union government on Friday had said that neighbourhood and stand-alone shops can reopen.
