India: Soren asks coal India to pay Rs 56,000 cr dues

Ranchi, Jul 23 (PTI) Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday asked Coal India for immediate payment of Rs 56,000 crore outstanding dues in lieu of government land allotted to it for mining.

A delegation of domestic coal giant, headed by its Chairman and Managing Director, Pramod Agrawal had called on Soren here.

Coal India, the world's largest dry-fuel miner accounts for over 80 per cent of domestic production.

India: ITBP jawan killed in encounter with Naxals in Chhattisgarh

Narayanpur, Jul 20 (PTI) A jawan of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was killed and an assistant sub-inspector injured in an encounter with Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district on Tuesday, police said.

The skirmish took place on Aamdai Ghati (valley) under Chhotedongar police station limits when a Road Opening Party (ROP) of the ITBP's 45th battalion was out on patrolling duty, Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P said.

India: Naxals kill villager, dump body in forest in Chhattisgarh

Bijapur, Jul 12 (PTI) A 32-year-old villager was killed by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bijapur district, police said on Monday.

The body of Baman Poyam, a native of Ambeli village under Kutru police station limits, was found on Monday morning on a forested route, about five km away from his village, an official said.

As per preliminary information, some unidentified Naxals abducted the victim from his house on Sunday night and later killed him with sharp weapons, he said.

The exact reason behind the killing was not yet known, he said.

India: 2 Naxals killed in C'garh's Narayanpur

Raipur, Jun 19 (PTI) Two Naxals were killed in separate encounters in the forests of Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district on Saturday, a police official said.

The gunfights took place under Orchha police station limits, located 300 kilometres away from Raipur, at around 8am and in the afternoon when a District Reserve Guard (DRG) team was out on an operation, Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg told PTI.

India: Rs 10,000 per acre subsidy for Chhattisgarh farmers to grow non-paddy crops

Raipur, May 20 (PTI) Farmers in Chhattisgarh will get an input subsidy of Rs 10,000 per acre for cultivating some crops identified by the government other than paddy from the Kharif season 2021-22, an official said on Thursday.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel here on Wednesday in a bid to encourage cultivation of crops other than paddy in Chhattisgarh, which known as the 'rice bowl' of central India because of extensive cultivation of rice in the state.

India: Naxals kill policeman in Chhattisgarh after abducting him

Raipur, Apr 24 (PTI) Naxals have killed a police sub-inspector they abducted in Bijapur district three days ago, an official said on Saturday.

Murli Tati had come to his home at Palnar when he was abducted by Naxals on April 21, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Kamlochan Kashyap said.

The Maoists dumped Murli's body near a village at Gangalur in Bijapur district, with a message alongside which claimed the policeman was "executed as decided by a people's court".

India: Naxal carrying Rs 5 lakh reward killed in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Apr 20 (PTI) Chhattisgarh police on Tuesday killed a Naxal carrying Rs five lakh reward in an encounter in Dantewada district, an official said.

The encounter comes a fortnight after 22 security personnel were killed in an ambush by Maoists in the Bijapur district of the state.

India: Naxals burn machines deployed to build water treatment plant

Bijapur, Apr 11 (PTI) Four machines and a vehicle engaged in the construction of a water treatment plant in Chattisgarh's Bijapur district were set ablaze by Naxals on Sunday, police said.

The arson incident took place in the afternoon under Naimed police station limits, where a WTP is being built on the bank of Mingachal river to supply potable water to Bijapur town, an official said.

India: Naxals release abducted CoBRA commando in Chhattisgarh

Bijapur, Apr 8 (PTI) CoBRA commando Rakeshwar Singh Manhas, who was abducted by Naxals after the last week's fierce gun-battle in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, was released on Thursday, police said.

Manhas, who belonged to the 210th battalion of Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), an elite unit of the CRPF, had gone missing after the gunfight on Saturday and later reported to be in the captivity of the Naxals.
