India: Govt determined to end Naxal menace: Amit Shah

Raipur/ New Delhi, Apr 5 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that the government is determined to take the ongoing fight against the unrest created by naxals to its logical conclusion.

The minister, who is on a visit to Chhattisgarh, made the comment after paying tributes to the 22 security personnel who were killed by naxals in the state on Saturday.

"Paid tributes to the brave security personnel who were martyred while fighting the naxalites at Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh," he said in a tweet in Hindi.

22 Indian security members killed in Maoist attack - Govt official

(Reuters) - At least 22 members of Indian security forces were killed in a central Indian state by Maoist fighters, one of the bloodiest attack by the extreme left-wing insurgent groups this year, officials said on Sunday.

Security personnel belonging to the Central Reserve Police Force’s elite CoBRA unit, the District Reserve Guard, and the Special Task Force were attacked on Saturday in the tribal-dominated Chhattisgarh state during an anti-insurgency operation.

India: Bodies of 17 jawans recovered at encounter site in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Apr 3 (PTI) Bodies of 17 of the 18 jawans missing after an encounter with Naxals in Chhattisgarh have been recovered from the site of the skirmish, police said on Sunday.

The number of security personnel killed in the encounter has gone up to 22, police said.

Eighteen jawans were missing after five security personnel were killed and 30 others injured on Saturday in the encounter with Naxals in a forest along the border between Bijapur and Sukma districts in Chhattisgarh, police said.

India: Naxal terrorists kill police constable in C'garh

Bijapur, Mar 21 (PTI) Naxals have allegedly killed a policeman after abducting him in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, an official said on Sunday.

Constable Sannu Punem was abducted by a group of Naxals on Saturday evening from Pondum village under Bhairmgarh police station limits and his body was found this morning near a rivulet close to nearby Keshkutul village, Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P said.

India: Woman Naxal held, right activists allege police frame-up

Raipur, Mar 9 (PTI) Police have arrested a tribal woman on charges of being a Naxal in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district on Tuesday, evoking sharp criticism from activists who claimed she was being implicated.

Police said at least five Naxal-related offences were registered against the woman and she was carrying a cash reward on her head.

However, activists claimed the woman was a tribal rights campaigner.

India: Four Naxals held in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada

Raipur, Mar 7 (PTI) Four Naxals, one of them carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, were arrested from two places in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district on Sunday, police said.

While three of them were apprehended from a forest between Etepal and Jiakodta villages under Kuakonda police station limits, a Maoist commander was held near Medpal village under Aranpur police station area, they said.

India: Naxals torch four vehicles in Chhattisgarh

Dantewada, Feb 10 (PTI) Naxals have set on fire four vehicles engaged in a railway project in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, police said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night between Bacheli and Nareli villages, said district superintendent of police Abhishek Pallava.

"The work for doubling of a railways track was going on in the area when around 20 armed naxals, suspected to be from the Bhairamgarh area committee, arrived at the site and set the four vehicles on fire," he said.

India: Deputy sarpanch killed by Naxal terrorists in Chhattisgarh

Kondagaon, Jan 25 (PTI) A deputy sarpanch was killed by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Kondagaon district, over 200 kilometres from state capital Raipur, police said on Monday.

The incident took place late Saturday evening in Permapal village under Bayanar police station limits when the victim, identified as Bajjaram Korram, was in his house with his family, an official said.

As per preliminary information, over a dozen ultras stormed into the house of Korram, deputy sarpanch of Permapal, dragged him out, thrashed him and strangled him, the official said.

India: Naxal terrorists kill husband of village sarpanch in Chhattisgarh

Rajnandgaon, Jan 14 (PTI) A group of Naxals allegedly killed the husband of a village sarpanch on suspicion of being a police informer in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place on Wednesday night in Pardoni village under Manpur police station limits, a Naxal-affected area located around 170 km from the state capital Raipur.

India: Chhattisgarh health minister opposes use of Covaxin

Raipur, Jan 9 (PTI) Chhattisgarh Health Minister T S Singh Deo on Saturday said the use of COVID-19 vaccine `Covaxin' must not be allowed in the state as its third-phase trial data has not been published yet.

He said he was not "confident" about asking people to take this vaccine.

Covaxin, indigenously developed by Bharat Biotech, has got approval for emergency use alongwith Oxford -AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine.

"The third phase trial of Covaxin is under process.
