Iranian feature film “World War III” to be screened at Beijing Int’l Film Festival

Tehran (ISNA) – The 13th Beijing International Film Festival is to host Iranian feature film “World War III” directed by Houman Seyedi.

The 13th Beijing International Film Festival opened on April 21 and will run through April 27 in China and the “World War III” will be screened at the event.

The film stars Mohsen Tanabandeh, Mahsa Hejazi, Neda Jebraeili and Navid Nosrati. It was selected as the Iran entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards.

India: Randeep Hooda begins filming Savarkar biopic

Mumbai, Oct 3 (PTI) Actor Randeep Hooda on Monday said he has started shooting for "SwatantryaVeer Savarkar", a biopic of Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar.

It also marks the directorial debut of Hooda, who plays the titular role in the film. Filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar was previously attached to direct the film.

Over 300 filmmakers reject Israeli fund in protest against 'apartheid mechanism'

05 Sep 2022; MEMO: In one of the largest protests against Israeli apartheid, more than 300 filmmakers signed a petition in which they refuse to cooperate with the Shomron Film Fund.  Oscar-nominated filmmakers were amongst the signatories who slammed the fund as being "part of the apartheid mechanism". Shomron is the Hebrew word for Samaria – which is the Biblical name of the occupied West Bank.

Dilip Kumar should get Bharat Ratna: Saira Banu

Mumbai, Jun 15 (PTI) Veteran actor Saira Banu says her late husband actor Dilip Kumar should be honoured with the Bharat Ratna as he is the "kohinoor" of the country.

Saira attended the Bharat Ratna Dr Ambedkar Award on late Tuesday evening, where union minister Ramdas Athawale presented the honour to Dilip Kumar, who passed away last year aged 98.

At the event, Athawale said he would request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider awarding Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour of the country, to the Hindi cinema legend.

USA: Will Smith wins best actor trophy at Oscars

Los Angeles, Mar 28 (PTI) Hollywood star Will Smith ended his dry run at the Oscars as he lifted the best actor trophy for "King Richard" minutes after he punched comedian Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith.

The punch will go down in the Oscars history as one of the wildest moments after the 2017's mix up when "La La Land" was mistakenly named as the best picture instead of "Moonlight".

Kuwait bans Death on the Nile film starring Israel actress

07 Feb 2022; MEMO: Kuwait has banned a new film adaptation of Agatha Christie's whodunnit "Death on the Nile" starring Israeli actress Gal Gadot who is known for her support of Israel's war on the besieged Gaza Strip.

Ministry of Information spokesperson, Anouar Murad, confirmed yesterday to AFP that the film has been banned.

Kuwait's Al-Qabas newspaper said the decision came in response to demands on social media to ban the film.
