India: DMK warns of protest in Delhi if Hindi language imposed on TN stae

Chennai, Oct 15 (PTI) Ruling DMK's youth wing secretary and Chief Minister M K Stalin's son Udayanidhi Stalin on Saturday warned that the party would stage a protest against the BJP-led Centre in Delhi if Hindi is thrust upon Tamil Nadu.

The Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni legislator, who led a massive protest near the landmark Valluvar Kottam here, said that the party would not remain a mute spectator if the sentiments of the people are disregarded by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union government.

India: Stalin elected unopposed as DMK chief for second time

Chennai, Oct 9 (PTI) DMK stalwart and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin was unanimously elected as party president at the party's general council meeting held here on Sunday.

In the newly constituted general council, which held its meeting here, the DMK declared Stalin as elected unopposed to the top party post.

Party veterans Duraimurugan and T R Baalu were unanimously elected as general secretary and treasurer respectively.

All the three leaders have been elected to their posts for the second time.

India: 20 antique idols seized from French national's residence

Chennai, Sep 12 (PTI) The Tamil Nadu Idol Wing CID thwarted an attempt to smuggle antique idols out of the country and seized 20 idols from the residence of a French national in Auroville, police said on Monday.

Following information that a handicrafts shop illegally dealt with stolen antique artefacts belonging to Tamil Nadu, the Idol Wing initiated a search on September 11 under the leadership of Inspector Indira, after obtaining an order from the Judicial Magistrate.

India: Bharat Jodo Yatra aimed at undoing damage done to the contry by BJP-RSS: Rahul

Kanyakumari, Sep 9 (PTI) Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday hit back at the BJP over its 'Parivar Bachao' remark, saying the Bharat Jodo Yatra is being undertaken to undo the damage done by the BJP-RSS in the country.

Speaking to the media during the yatra which started from Kanyakumari on Thursday, Gandhi accused the BJP of taking control of institutions of the country and pressurising those who are against them.

Delhi CM Kejriwal to visit Tamil Nadu on September 5

New Delhi, Aug 30 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Tuesday said he will visit Tamil Nadu on September 5 to launch three projects there, including schools of excellence on the lines of the national capital.

Kejriwal thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin for inviting him to the southern state.

Chennai, Jul 16 (PTI) The ruling DMK's Lok Sabha MP, S Senthilkumar objected to 'Bhoomi Puja' for a road project by a Hindu priest and said that representatives of all religions should be invited to offer prayers for any such an event.

The Dharmapuri Lok Sabha MP, on his arrival at the spot in his home district asked an official if he was aware a government function should not be held in such a manner involving prayers of only one particular religion.

India: More Sri Lankans arrive in TN

Rameswaram (TN), Jul 5 (PTI) Beleaguered Sri Lankans fleeing the crisis-hit island republic and arriving in the country continued on Tuesday as eight persons, including children, belonging to two families, landed here, unable to manage the "unlivable" conditions back home.

Prior to this, 105 persons have arrived in the country through the sea route here, with Sri Lanka being in the grip of a crippling economic crisis that has resulted in exorbitant prices of essential commodities.

India: Bill to make TN CM Chancellor of Siddha varsity passed

Chennai, Apr 28 (PTI) The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Thursday passed a Bill to establish a Siddha Medical University in the state, of which Chief Minister M K Stalin will be Chancellor.

In his capacity as Chancellor of the varsity, the Chief Minister will appoint the Vice Chancellor from a list of three names shortlisted by the search committee. Health and Family Welfare Minister will be the Pro-Chancellor, as per the Tamil Nadu Siddha Medical University Act, 2022.
