India: Plight of Lakshadweep students, patients raised in LS

New Delhi, Dec 14 (PTI) Lok Sabha member from Lakshadweep Faisal P P Mohammed on Tuesday highlighted the plight of students and patients from the archipelago due to the non-availability of adequate passenger ships.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Faisal claimed that at least five passenger ships, run by the Lakshadweep Development Corporation Ltd, were non-operational for want of repairs.

India: 9 islands of Lakshadweep to be seaweed hub

Kochi, Sep 6 (PTI) The Lakshadweep administration has launched a programme to turn its nine inhabited islands into a hub of seaweed cultivation, officials said here on Monday.

Prioritising seaweed farming as the driver of development of the islands, the administration, with the technical support of the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), held a demonstration on farming seaweed on the nine islands, a press release from the institute said.

Kavaratti, Aug 1 (PTI) India's popular island destination Lakshadweep will soon have three premium Maldives style water villas, claimed to be the first of its kind in the country.

The three premium projects will come up in Minicoy, Kadmat and Suheli islands at a cost of Rs 800 crore, for which the administration floated global tenders on Saturday

India: HC stays two recent orders of Lakshadweep administration

Kochi, June 22 (PTI) The Kerala High Court on Tuesday stayed the operation of two recent orders of the Lakshadweep administration--to close down dairy farms and remove meat products, including chicken from the menu of midday meals for school children.

The stay order was issued by a Division bench, comprising Chief Justice S Manikumar and Justice Shaji P Chaly on a PIL filed by a lawyer from the Islands.

India: Lakshadweep filmmaker Sulthana quizzed by Kavaratti police

Kochi, Jun 20 (PTI) Filmmaker Ayesha Sulthana, booked for sedition in Lakshadweep, on Sunday appeared before the Kavaratti police in connection with the case.

She reached the Kavaratti police headquarters at 4 PM and was allowed to leave at 7.15 PM after questioning.

In a video message to reporters, Sulthana said the police were cooperative and she had been directed to stay on the islands for 3-4 days.
