India: LVM3-M4 rocket carrying Chandrayaan-3 (lunar mission) lifts off from Sriharikota

Sriharikota, (AP), Jul 14 (PTI) The Indian Space Research Organisation launched its third lunar mission--Chandrayaan 3 on-board the heavylift LVM3-M4 rocket here on Friday.

At the end of the 25.30 hour countdown, the LVM3-M4 rocket, the largest and heaviest in its class and dubbed as 'Fat Boy' lifted off majestically at a prefixed time at 2.35 pm from the second launch pad, discharging thick plumes of smoke.

India: Court acquits 21 policemen accused of gang-raping 11 AP tribal women

Visakhapatnam, Apr 8 (PTI) As many as 21 policemen accused of gang-raping 11 Kondh tribal women 16 years ago at a village in Alluri Sitarama Raju district in the state have been acquitted by a Special Court.

The Court held the accused were primarily acquitted because of the failure of the two investigating officers to conduct a fair and impartial investigation.

The women were allegedly gangraped by the police personnel who belonged to Greyhounds, a special team, in August 2007.

India: Apple supplier Foxlink's fire safety systems mostly faulty, official says

CHITTOOR, India, Feb 28 (Reuters) - Most of the fire safety equipment at Apple supplier Foxlink's (2392.TW) facility in southern India was not functional, a government official told Reuters on Tuesday, a day after a massive blaze forced production to be halted.

The factory, which makes charging cables for iPhones, is located in the Chittoor district of India's Andhra Pradesh state and is unlikely to resume full operations for two months, raising supply chain concerns for the U.S. tech giant, Reuters reported earlier in the day.

India: Facing court wrath, AP IAS officers reach out to CM

Amaravati, May 1 (PTI): Indian Administrative Service officers of Andhra Pradesh are an aggrieved lot, what with the High Court breathing down their necks and hauling them up for contempt.

There is consternation among the IAS ranks, caused by friction with the legal profession, which is now threatening to affect the overall administration.

The AP IAS Association presented its case to Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, asking him to take immediate "corrective action" and safeguard the dignity of the cadre.

India: Man forced to carry son's body on bike

Tirupati (AP), Apr 26 (PTI) In a heartrending incident, a man was forced to carry the body of his deceased son on his lap, riding pillion on a bike, for 90 km to his native village from Tirupati around midnight on Monday after a rowdy mob of ambulance drivers demanded that he cough up Rs 10,000 for the trip.

Not stopping at that, the ambulance drivers at the Ruia Hospital in Tirupati did not allow another ambulance sent by the man's relatives to carry the body.

India: Nobel Laureate to help Andhra govt reach goals

Amaravati, Mar 28 (PTI): The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), founded by Nobel Laureate Esther Duflo, an economist, will extend its collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh government to help achieve the target set under the UN sustainable developmental goals.

Duflo and her team interacted with Chief Minister of the State Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy here on Monday and explored ways on working with the government.

India: Hyderabad is AP's capital till 2024, says Minister

Amaravati, March 7 (PTI) The Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government on Monday stirred up a new row, saying Hyderabad is the capital of Andhra Pradesh till 2024.

The principal opposition Telugu Desam Party launched a counter-offensive asking the ruling party to shift base to Hyderabad and rule from there if it is the state capital.

The row comes in the backdrop of the March 3 verdict of the AP High Court that said the state Legislature 'lacked competence' to make any legislation for shifting, bifurcating or trifurcating the capital.

India: Gold ornaments worth Rs 3 cr donated to Tirupati temple

Tirupati, Dec 10 (PTI) A princely offering of a set of gem-studded golden gloves to adorn the divine palms of presiding deity of Lord Venkateswara at the ancient hill shrine in Tirumala here was on Friday made by a devotee as a fulfillment of his vow.

The devotee, a jeweller hailing from this temple city, along with family members, handed over the offering called 'Kati-Hastham' and 'Varada-Hastham' to A Venkata Dharma Reddy, Additional Executive Officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) that govern the cash-rich shrine, a temple official told PTI.

India: AP seeks to take back lands given to Central PSUs

Amaravati, Nov 16 (PTI) The Andhra Pradesh government is seeking to take back close to 750 acres of land it allotted to NTPC-BHEL Power Projects Private Ltd (NBPPL) at Mannavaram village in Chittoor district as the joint venture company is on the verge of winding up its business.

This apart, the state government is also listing out lands given at concessional rates to various other Central government public sector undertakings for setting up their units across AP.

India: AP govt opposes Centre's Indian Ports Bill

Amaravati, June 24 (PTI) Close on the heels of its neighbour Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh on Thursday said it was opposed to the proposed Indian Ports Act, 2021 mooted by the Union Ministry of Shipping.

APs Infrastructure and Investments Minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy conveyed the states objection to the proposed law to Union Shipping Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, saying it was "going against the Constitution."

"We have not yet studied the (draft) Bill.
