Cambodia attracts 4.92 bln USD investment in 2023, up 22 pct

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia attracted fixed-asset investment of 4.92 billion U.S. dollars in 2023, up 22 percent from 4.03 billion dollars in a year earlier, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) said in a news release on Wednesday.

The Southeast Asian country approved 268 investment projects last year, which could create approximately 307,000 jobs, the CDC said, adding that those projects were mainly focused on industries, infrastructure, agriculture and agro-industry, and tourism.

Cambodian PM to attend 4th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Leaders' Meeting via video conference

PHNOM PENH, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet will participate in the fourth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Leaders' Meeting via video conference on Monday, the country's foreign ministry said in a press statement on Saturday.

Myanmar and China will co-chair the virtual meeting, the statement said.

The LMC consists of six countries, namely China, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam.

PHNOM PENH, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet will participate in the fourth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Leaders' Meeting via video conference on Monday, the country's foreign ministry said in a press statement on Saturday.

Myanmar and China will co-chair the virtual meeting, the statement said.

Cambodian PM to pay official visit to Vietnam next week

PHNOM PENH, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet will pay an official visit to Vietnam on Dec. 11 and 12 to further advance bilateral ties and cooperation, said a foreign ministry's statement on Thursday.

His upcoming visit "signifies a further deepening of the long-standing relationship based on the spirit of good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term stability between Cambodia and Vietnam for the mutual benefit of the two nations", the statement said.

Cambodian gov't collects revenue of 4.88 bln USD in 10 months

PHNOM PENH, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Cambodian government collected a total revenue of 20,160 billion riels (4.88 billion U.S. dollars) in the first 10 months of 2023, a year-on-year decrease of 2 percent, said a Ministry of Economy and Finance report released on Wednesday.

During the January-October period this year, the Southeast Asian country earned 4.4 billion dollars in tax revenue, down 4.2 percent, and 482 million dollars in non-tax revenue, up 24 percent, the report said.

Chinese-invested hydropower plant project to increase reliable source of clean energy in Cambodia

KOH KONG, Cambodia, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- The project of the Chinese-invested Cambodia Upper Tatay Hydropower Station will increase the reliable source of clean energy in Cambodia, contributing further to socioeconomic development and poverty reduction, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said on Thursday.

With a designed capacity of 150 megawatts (MWs), the project is expected to generate 527 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year when it is fully operational.

Cambodia makes 1.2 bln USD from exports of raw cashew nuts, rubber in 10 months

PHNOM PENH, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia earned a total of 1.2 billion U.S. dollars from the exports of raw cashew nuts and dry rubber during the first 10 months of 2023, according to official reports on Wednesday.

A report from the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia showed that the kingdom exported a total of 615,000 tonnes of raw cashew nuts to Vietnam during the January-October period this year, down 16.7 percent year-on-year.

The Southeast Asian country made 831 million dollars in revenue from the exports of the commodity, the report said.

6 killed in truck crash in NW Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Six people were killed and 18 others got injured after their pickup truck overturned on the road down from the Kulen Mountain in northwest Cambodia's Siem Reap province on Monday, a local police chief said.

The truck was carrying a troupe, which rode the truck down the mountain after finishing a performance at the mountaintop pagoda, said Yip Yungchheang, police chief of Svay Leu district.

World Bank Approves 163 Million USD For Safe Water Supply, Sanitation Project In Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, Nov 22 (NNN-AKP) – The World Bank has approved a 163-million-U.S. dollar project, to support Cambodia’s efforts to strengthen water supply and sanitation services, in four provinces, benefiting over 175,000 people, said its press release, today.

The press release said that, in 2022, less than a third of Cambodians had access to a safely managed water supply, and just over a third used safely managed sanitation.

Cambodia’s Ruling Party Forms Coalition With 27 Other Parties

PHNOM PENH, Oct 25 (NNN-AKP) – The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), signed a Cooperation and Coalition Agreement with 27 other political parties today.

CPP President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, inked the historic deal with representatives of those parties at a ceremony held at the CPP’s headquarters in Phnom Penh.

Speaking at the event, Hun Sen said, the alliance aimed to maintain the country’s hard-earned peace and political stability, the most important prerequisite for socio-economic development.
