India: Patna HC stays trial proceedings against Rahul in Sushil Modi's defamation suit

Patna, Apr 24 (PTI) The Patna High Court on Monday stayed the proceedings before a trial court here against former Congress president Rahul Gandhi in connection with his alleged slanderous remarks against those having "Modi" surname.

Justice Sandeep Kumar stayed the proceedings while hearing a petition of Gandhi, who has contended that since he has already been convicted in a similar case by a Gujarat court, he cannot be put on trial for the same offence again.

India: BJP has anti-reservation agenda, alleges JD(U)

Patna, Oct 13 (PTI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) on Thursday charged the BJP, its former ally, with working on an agenda to do away with reservations for backward classes.

JD(U) national president Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan also alleged that the recent Patna High Court order that declared as illegal quotas for OBCs/EBCs in urban local body polls in the state, was a result of a conspiracy .

Lalan made the allegations at a demonstration held near the historic Gandhi Maidan here.

India: Wanting to become PM, Nitish Kumar backstabbed BJP: Amit Shah

Purnea, Sep 23 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday claimed that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar backstabbed the BJP to join hands with RJD and Congress, in order to fulfil his prime ministerial ambitions.

Asserting that the BJP will form a government with full majority in the state, Shah alleged that Kumar does not have any ideology, so he gave up socialism in favour of caste-based politics.

India: JD(U) flays Bihar BJP chief over population growth rate figures

Patna, Sep 10 (PTI) The JD(U) lashed out at Bihar BJP chief Sanjay Jaiswal for coming up with "misleading" data on population growth rate in two districts of the state, alleging that he was trying to incite communal hatred among people.

Jaiswal had on Wednesday claimed that population growth rate in Kishanganj and Araria districts was the "highest in the world", partly due to the alleged high rate of influx of "Bangladeshi infiltrators".

Patna, Aug 10 (PTI) Stripped of power in Bihar, the BJP on Wednesday staged a massive demonstration condemning the betrayal of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, whose similar volte face five years ago had helped it join the government through the proverbial back door .

The `Maha Dharna' (massive demonstration) staged in front of the party office at Birchand Patel Marg was attended by all BJP MPs and MLAs from Bihar who vowed to expose the 71 years old JD(U) leader through agitations scheduled at district and block levels later this week.

India: Kushwaha blames BJP for tension in Bihar NDA

Patna, July 25 (PTI) Upendra Kushwaha, a top leader of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U), on Monday squarely blamed ally BJP for the perception gaining ground that all was not well in the NDA in the state.

The JD(U) parliamentary board chief also slammed state BJP chief Sanjay Jaiswal for having recently claimed that Bihar was fast becoming a hub of anti-national terror activities.

India: Agnipath scheme rocks Bihar assembly

Patna, June 27 (PTI) Bihar Assembly was adjourned till 2 pm, less than half an hour after commencement of proceedings on Monday, when the House plunged into turmoil over an adjournment motion against Agnipath moved by the opposition which also, called the scheme a dictatorial step by the Prime Minister.

Proceedings began at 11 am, amid vociferous demands by opposition MLAs that the adjournment motion of Lalit Yadav (RJD) and Ajeet Sharma (Congress) be accepted right away.

New Delhi, Jun 19 (PTI) Amid widespread protests against the Agnipath military recruitment scheme in Bihar, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday said there were many doubts about the scheme in the minds of the youth and demanded that it be withdrawn.

Addressing a press conference here, he asked whether this was a MGNREGA-like initiative for the educated youth or there was a "hidden agenda" of the RSS in it.
