India: 20-yr-old woman raped by man in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 5 (PTI) A 20-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a man in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar when she had gone to collect wood with her mother in a forest, police said on Saturday.

According to a complaint lodged by the woman's mother, the incident took place on Friday. Two bike-borne men forcibly took the woman to a nearby sugarcane field, where Salman allegedly raped her.

India: Naxal terrorists kill four villagers in Bijapur district

Raipur, Sep 5 (PTI) Naxals have allegedly killed four villagers in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district after accusing them of being police informers, a senior official said on Saturday.

The killings took place in the last two days in the forest of Dumri-Palnar village under Gangaloor police station area, inspector general of police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P told PTI.

India record 86,432 corona infections in a day, from 3 million to 4 million in 13 days

New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) India's COVID-19 infection tally sprinted past 40 lakh, just 13 days after it crossed 30 lakh, with a record 86,432 cases being reported in a day, while recoveries have surged to 31,07,223 on Saturday pushing the recovery rate to 77.23 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry.

The total coronavirus cases mounted to 40,23,179, while the death toll climbed to 69,561 with 1,089 people succumbing to the disease in a span of 24 hours, data updated at 8 am showed.

India: Trains running towards Mumbai to get speed

Kanpur: In order to provide speed to the trains diverting towards Mumbai, the Northern Central Railways has decided to move forward in the direction of erecting elevated track following the apex court's order.

Dwelling upon the court's direction the DRM Amitabh Kimar, Prayagraj Division, said that the illegal mud huts would be removed along the railway track in Kanpur Section. The assistance of district administration will also be taken in this drive.

Indian, Chinese defense ministers meet amid border tensions

NEW DELHI (AP) — Defense ministers of India and China met in the Russian capital as the two sides try to resolve rising tensions along their disputed border in the eastern Ladakh region, where a June clash killed 20 Indian soldiers.

Neither side gave details of the meeting Friday between India’s Rajnath Singh and China’s Gen. Wei Fenghe. It was the first high-level contact between the two sides since the standoff erupted months ago in the Karakorum mountains.

Chinese embassy urges India to rectify discriminatory practices violating WTO rules

NEW DELHI, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese embassy in India on Thursday urged India to rectify discriminatory practices violating rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO) with regard to the Indian government's decision of blocking 118 Chinese mobile apps.

In response to media questions, Ji Rong, spokesperson of the Chinese embassy in India, said that China is seriously concerned and firmly opposes the Indian government's decision to prohibit mobile apps affiliated with China with the excuse of "national security."

India: Himachal minister tests COVID-19 positive

Shimla, Sep 3 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Jal Shakti Minister Mahender Singh Thakur said he tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, four days ahead of the monsoon session of the assembly.

Singh, 70, in a Facebook post urged people who came in his contact recently to quarantine themselves and get tested for the dreaded disease.

The legislator from Mandi's Dharampur assembly segment said he had got himself tested after observing primary symptoms. The seven-time MLA expressed hope that he would be cured soon.
