India: Proper nutrition vital to build prosperous nation: Modi

New Delhi, Sep 7 (PTI) Asserting that proper nutrition is vital to build a prosperous nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday called for undertaking efforts to reach out to people across the country to spread awareness on eradicating malnutrition.

With the 'Psohan Maah' (nutrition month) 2020 starting from Monday, Modi said in tweets that this exercise will help India's youth and women force.

He noted that India is home to numerous healthy dishes and asked people to share them on @mygovIndia, the citizen engagement platform of the Union government.

India: BJP MLA booked for rape in Uttarakhand

Dehradun, Sept 6 (PTI) BJP MLA from Dwarahat, Mahesh Negi, has been booked for rape and criminal intimidation weeks after a woman accused him of the crime in a police complaint, police said.

An FIR was registered against Negi at the Nehru Colony police station here on Sunday under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC in compliance with the orders of a local court, Dehradun Superintendent of Police (City), Shweta Choubey, said.

The legislator's wife Rita Negi has also been booked for criminal intimidation, she said.

India: Minor girl raped by mother's colleagues during lockdown

Bhubaneswar, Sep 6 (PTI) A 13-year-old was raped at her residence here by her mother's colleagues and a policeman among others during the March-April lockdown and the police have launched a manhunt for the accused, police said.

At least seven persons were involved in this heinous act and the mother's colleagues are absconding, Bhubaneswar deputy commissioner of police U S Dash said on Sunday.

India: MP farmers to get Rs 4.6k cr in PM crop insurance scheme

Bhopal, Sep 6 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Agriculture Minister Kamal Patel on Sunday said 20 lakh farmers from the state will get Rs 4,688 crore under Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme on September 16.

Talking to reporters, Patel said the amount will be transferred into farmers' accounts by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan "with a single click".

Lucknow, Sep 6 (PTI) Accusing the Yogi Adityanath government of ignoring the youths' problems, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday demanded a youth charter envisaging the solution to their problems in a time-bound manner.

"The anger among youths against the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is increasing. Despite opposition from several quarters, examinations are being conducted during the pandemic. In the name of jobs, the youths are being misled, said former chief minister Yadav in a statement.

India: Kangana Ranaut given Y-plus category security by Centre

New Delhi, Sept 7 (PTI) Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut has been given Y-plus category security by central security agencies, officials said on Monday.

The decision has been taken in view of a renewed threat to the actor after she spoke about drug use among a section in the film industry following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

The home ministry has decided to accord Ranaut Y-plus category security through one of the paramilitary personnel, a home ministry official said.

India: Hyderabad Metro operations resume in graded manner

Hyderabad, Sep 7 (PTI): Hyderabad Metro Rail services resumed operations on the Miyapur-LB Nagar route on Monday after a gap of over five months following the COVID-19 guidelines.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) and L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited authorities said metro train services between Corridor 1(Miyapur to LB Nagar) has started while metro operations will be resumed in graded manner on other routes.

India: AG K K Venugopal in self-quarantine

New Delhi, Sep 7 (PTI) Attorney General K K Venugopal is in self-quarantine, the Supreme Court was informed on Monday as the Centre sought adjournment in a matter related to filling of vacancies in tribunals.

A bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao and Hemant Gupta was requested by Additional Solicitor General S V Raju that a short adjournment be granted in the case as the AG, who is appearing in the matter, is in self-quarantine.

India: 2 members of banned terrorist group Babbar Khalsa held

New Delhi, Sep 7 (PTI) Two suspected members of banned terrorist group Babbar Khalsa International have been arrested following a brief exchange of fire in northwest Delhi, police said on Monday.

The accused have been identified as Bhupender alias Dilawar Singh and Kulwant Singh, both residents of Ludhiana, the police said, adding that they were also wanted in some cases in Punjab.

The special cell of Delhi Police nabbed the two on Saturday night, they said.
