India: Guj BJP chief tests coronavirus positive

Ahmedabad, Sep 9 (PTI) Gujarat BJP chief C R Paatil has tested coronavirus positive, a hospital in Gandhinagar where he is undergoing treatment said on Wednesday.

"Paatil is currently admitted to Apollo Hospitals and is undergoing treatment for COVID-19. He is currently stable and being taken care of by multidisciplinary team of specialists," the hospital said in a statement.

India: 1 held for transferring funds to man spying for Pakistan

Jaipur, Sep 9 (PTI) Intelligence officials on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly transferring funds to a spy who was passing confidential information to his Pakistani handler.

The officials arrested Aditya Singh of Agra who had transferred funds to one Mushtaq Ali through a mobile payment app.

Ali was earlier arrested under espionage charges.

Singh had deposited Rs 10,000 in e-wallet of Ali in February 2019, the intelligence officials said.

India: 2 COVID-19 positive rape accused flee from hospital in UP

Chitrakoot (UP), Sep 10 (PTI) Two undertrials undergoing treatment at a COVID hospital here on Thursday managed to flee breaking the bathroom window, police said.

Rape accused, Rajju and Brijlal, escaped at about 4 am from the hospital, Superintendent of Police Ankit Mittal said.

Both of them were admitted in the hospital on September 7 after they were found COVID-19 positive, he said.

The officer said attempts are on to arrest them, adding that separate police teams have been constituted for the purpose.

A senior police officer said, the accused Abhishek Pandey who had allegedly molested the 31-year old woman in his car on Saturday night was arrested from a guest house in Dumdum area, in the northern outskirts of city, on Tuesday night.

Dehradun, Sep 9 (PTI) An international team of researchers has unearthed a 13-million-year-old fossil of a newly discovered ape species in Uttarakhand, which is the earliest known ancestor of the modern-day gibbon.

The finding, published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B, fills a major void in the ape fossil record and provides important new evidence about when the ancestors of today's gibbon migrated to Asia from Africa.

India: Woman preacher gang-raped in Jharkhand ashram

Godda, Sep 8 (PTI) A woman preacher was allegedly gang-raped at an ashram in Jharkhand's Godda district on Tuesday, police said.

A group of men scaled the wall of the ashram around 2.30 am, entered it and held the ascetics and preachers at gunpoint, they said.

At that time there were four women preachers and a sadhu present in the ashram, located in Ranidih in Muffasil police station area, they added.
