India: UP govt to set up special security force ordered by HC

Lucknow, Sep 13 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday said a special force will be constituted on the basis of orders of the Allahabad High Court, which had expressed its displeasure over the security at civil courts last December.

Briefing reporters here, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said, "The state government has given orders for the constitution of a special security force. A roadmap in this regard has been sought from the UP DGP."

India: 3 temple priests killed in Bengaluru: Five arrested

Bengaluru, Sep 14 (PTI) Five people have been arrested in connection with the murder of three temple priests in Mandya after a brief encounter in the wee hours of Monday, police said.

"We have arrested five people while four others are absconding. In all, there are nine people involved in this case," Mandya Superintendent of Police Parashurama K told P T I.

He said eight of them hailed from Mandya and Ramanagara districts while one was from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.

India: Kolkata Metro resumes services after over 5 months

Kolkata, Sep 14 (PTI) Metro rail services in Kolkata resumed on Monday after a gap of more than five months, a senior official said.

The regular services were suspended on March 23 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Special trains, however, were run for NEET aspirants and their guardians on Sunday.

"Services have resumed at 8 am and around 3,000 people have commuted in the first two hours," Kolkata Metro Railway General Manager Manoj Joshi told PTI.

India: Man poisons wife, daughter in UP

Pratapgarh (UP) Sep 14 (PTI) A man allegedly poisoned his wife and daughter over a family dispute in the Rampur Kotwa area here, police said on Monday.

While the daughter died during treatment at a hospital, her mother is battling for life, they said.

Monu Yadav allegedly poisoned his wife Jyoti (35) and daughter Deepti(5) following a dispute between them over family matters, police said.

They were referred to Allahabad hospital where Deepti died Sunday night, they said.

55-year-old BJP leader was tested positive for coronavirus, and was admitted to Medanta – a private hospital in Gurgaon on August 2.

India’s COVID-19 Tally Continues To Peak With 97,570 New Cases Reported

NEW DELHI, Sept 13 (NNN-PTI) – India’s COVID-19 tally continues to peak on Saturday, as 97,570 new cases were detected during the past 24 hours, taking the total to 4,659,984, said the federal health ministry.

Besides, 1,201 more deaths were recorded, taking the death toll to 77,472, according to the data.

There are 958,316 active cases across the country, while 3,624,196 people have been successfully cured and discharged from hospitals.

India: Nine Naxal terrorists arrested in Dantewada

Raipur, Sep 13 (PTI) Nine Naxals have been arrested by security forces in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Dantewada district, a police official said on Sunday.

Acting on specific inputs, a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and district police apprehended the cadres from a forest between Mailwada and Mokhpal villages on Saturday evening, Dantewada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava told PTI.

Mumbai, Sep 13 (PTI) Facing flak from detractors on both political and coronavirus front, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said a conspiracy is afoot to malign Maharashtra.

"Whatever political storms come, I will face... I will fight coronavirus too," Thackeray said in a televised public address.

A day after COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra crossed the 10-lakh mark, Thackeray said his government has done effective work to tackle the pandemic.

India: R'than govt enhances benefits under welfare scheme for journalists

Jaipur, Sep 12 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday decided to enhance the benefits given under the welfare schemes for journalists in the state, a statement said.

In a review meeting of the department of Information and Public Relations, the chief minister approved the increase in the assistance amount for journalists from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh in case of serious illness, it said.
