India: Woman, daughter dead in UP in dowry case

Bhadohi (UP), Sep 15 (PTI) A woman and her three-year-old daughter died here in a suspected case of dowry death, police said on Tuesday.

Four people, including the woman's husband Vinod Chauhan, have been arrested in this connection, they said.

According to police, Sulekha (26) and her daughter Sonali were found dead in a pond on Monday night. The bodies were fished out by the villagers.

India: Minor girl gan-raped in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP) Sept 15 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was allegedly abducted, beaten up and raped by two youths in a village under Phephna police station area here in the district, police said on Tuesday.

An FIR was lodged in the case on the victim's mother complaint and two people were arrested on Tuesday, said SHO Rajiv Mishra of Phephna.

The incident took place on September 9 but came to light on Monday when Lucknow Deputy Inspector General of Police Amitabh Thakur took note of a Facebook post of a social activist, Rajat Singh, on the gangrape, said police.

Centre approves AIIMS for Bihar's Darbhanga

New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) The Union Cabinet has approved establishment of a new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Bihar's Darbhanga, an official statement said on Tuesday.

The institute will come up under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) at a total cost of Rs 1,264 crore, it said.

The new AIIMS is likely to be completed within a period of 48 months from the date of the approval by the Centre, the statement said.

India: Kangana seeks compensation of Rs 2 crore from BMC

Mumbai,Sept 15 (PTI) Actor Kangana Ranaut has amended her petition before the Bombay High Court to seek a compensation of Rs 2 crore from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for "illegal" demolition at her bungalow.

After the BMC demolished what it termed as illegal alterations at the "Queen" actor's bungalow at Pali Hill in suburban Bandra on September 9, Ranaut moved the high court.

India: Gujarat minister, BJP MLA test positive for coronavirus

Ahmedabad, Sep 15 (PTI) A minister in the Gujarat government and a BJP MLA on Tuesday said they have tested positive for coronavirus.

In a tweet, Gujarat Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs minister Jayesh Radadiya said he has contracted the infection and is home quarantined.

"My coronavirus report is positive. I am currently home quarantined and my condition is stable. Those who have come in contact with me in the last one week should also get themselves tested," Radadiya said in a tweet.

India: 100 paramilitary personnel died due to COVID-19

New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) A total of 100 paramilitary personnel have died due to the coronavirus in the country so far, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said the data in respect of state police personnel who died due to COVID-19 is not maintained centrally.

Of the 100 deaths reported, as on September 10, as many as 35 were from the CRPF, 24 from CISF, 23 from BSF, seven from ITBP, six from SSB and five from Assam Rifles, he said replying to a written question.

India: 138 Kasmiris killed during last 6 months in Indian Administered Kashmir

Delhi, Sep 15, 2020: As many as 138 Kashmiris and separatists have been killed by Indian security forces between March and August this year in the Indian Administered Kashmir, the Indian Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy  informed Parliament on Tuesday.

50 Indian security force personnel too lost their lives during this period.

Kanpur: Buying a book of Sanskrit prescribed for the junior class under CBSE Board makes the guardians think thrice as the printed price shocks them. 

The subject is very much compulsory to learn therefore the book needs to be purchased. 

The selected book shops, where this book of a particular school in Jajmau area of the city sells, do not even offer some rebate on the course book.

Strangely enough, the book has good cover, nice pages, immaculate printing but all the glows appear to be done for a higher price, as several say.

India: Kangana Ranaut leaves Mumbai for home state, says analogy about POK "bang on"

Mumbai, Sep 14 (PTI) Actor Kangana Ranaut on Monday left Mumbai for her home state Himachal Pradesh, saying she has been terrorised with "constant attacks and abuses" and declaring that her analogy comparing the city with Pakistan occupied Kashmir was "bang on".

The actor, whose comments triggered a spat with Maharashtra's ruling Shiv Sena, arrived in the city from her home in Manali last week for a short visit.

India Govt using sedition law to curb free speech: former SC judge Lokur

New Delhi, Sep 14 (PTI) The government is using the sedition law with an iron hand to curb free speech in an overreaction to people's opinion, former Supreme Court judge Justice M B Lokur said on Monday.

Another method by which the state is curbing free speech is to crack down on critical opinions by charging them of spreading fake news, Justice (retried) Lokur said at a webinar on 'Freedom of Speech and Judiciary'.
