India: TMC worker killed in West Bengal's Malda district, BJP blamed

Kolkata, Sept 14 (PTI) A 40-year-old Trinamool Congress worker was found dead in West Bengal's Malda district, police said on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Subodh Pramanik, a wood trader. He was a resident of Habibpur village in the district, they said.

Pramanik's body was found near his agricultural land where he had gone on Sunday evening, police said.

Police have launched a probe into the matter as the TMC held the local BJP responsible for the killing.

India: 7-yr-old girl molested in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Sep 15 (PTI) A seven-year-old girl was allegedly sexual harassed by a man when she had gone to collect water from a handpump in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at a village in Purkazi area on Sunday. The suspect took her to his house and sexual harassed her. He later ran away when the girl raised an alarm, an officer said.

Rajkumar Saini has been arrested and a case registered, the officer said.

India: Corona +ve former CM Kalyan Singh's condition stable

Lucknow, Sep 15 (PTI) The condition of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh who has tested positive for coronavirus is stable, a hospital official said on Tuesday.

Singh, 88, had complaints of fever, dry cough and breathlessness, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) director R K Dhiman had said on Monday.

The former chief minister was admitted to the SGPGI at 6.30 pm after he tested positive for COVID-19, Dhiman had said.

In a series of tweets on a day on which Hindi Diwas is celebrated, the former Chief Minister warned against "imposition" of the language, and said the cordial nature of Kannadigas should not be construed as their weakness.

Kashmir: Separatists attack Indian security forces in Pulwama

Srinagar, Sep 13 (PTI) Militants attacked a team of security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, but there are no reports of any loss of life, police said.

"Around 5:45pm, militants fired on a party of Army's Rashtriya Rifles at Parigam in south Kashmir's Pulwama," a police official said.

The security forces retaliated forcing the militants to flee, he said.

There are no reports of any loss of life or injury, he said.

India: Man held for raping teen in MP

Bhopal, Sep 13 (PTI) A man has been arrested in Satna in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl over the past two years, the crime taking political overtones with the state BJP calling it a "love jihad" case.

Mohammad Atiq Mansuri, in his 40s, has been in custody since Saturday, Kolgawan police station inspector Mohit Saxena said.

Indian PM Modi faces turbulent session as Parliament reopens

NEW DELHI (AP) — After a five-month absence, Indian lawmakers returned to Parliament on Monday with the government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, the nosediving economy and simmering tensions with China setting the stage for a turbulent session.

The 18-day session comes as coronavirus infections in India surge faster than anywhere else in the world. The more than 92,000 new cases added Monday raised India’s totals past 4.8 million. More than 79,700 people have died.
