India: Naxal terrorists kill CAF jawan in Chhattisgarh, dump body on road

Bijapur, Sep 18 (PTI) A Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) jawan, who had been missing, was killed by Naxals in Bijapur district, police said on Friday.

The body of constable Mallu Ram Suryawanshi (38), who had been missing from his camp since the last one week, was found on the Bijapur-Gangloor road near Padeda village on Friday morning, a police official said.

A police team later shifted the body to hosptial for post-mortem, he said.

Indian Govt again cuts import duty on masoor dal

New Delhi, Sep 18 (PTI) The government has reduced the import duty on masoor dal by 20 per cent till October-end, a move aimed at increasing availability in the domestic market.

A notification of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has amended a June 2017 notification "so as to reduce" the basic customs duty on lentil (masoor dal) for the period from September 18, 2020 to October 31, 2020".

The import duty on lentil has been reduced from 30 per cent to 10 per cent from countries other than the US.

India: Hindu Yuva Vahini leader stabbed to death in UP

Bareilly (UP), Sep 17 (PTI) A Hindu Yuva Vahini leader was on Thursday stabbed to death here in a case of love triangle, police said.

The youth group 'Hindu Yuva Vahini' was formed by Yogi Adityanath in 2002.

Sanjay Singh Bhadauria (35) was stabbed to death in Anandpur locality by a person identified as Imran, police said.

"Both Imran and Sanjay were in love with a girl. This prima facie appears to be the cause of the murder," SSP Rohit Singh Sajwan said.

India: JJP apologises for lathicharge on farmers in Haryana

Chandigarh, Sep 17 (PTI) Jannayak Janta Party leader Digvijay Singh Chautala on Thursday apologised for the lathicharge on farmers in Kurukshetra's Pipli last week, saying if any of them was hit, they feel it was the family of the late Devi Lal.

Digvijay Chautala, whose party is a coalition partner of the BJP in the state, is the great grandson of the former deputy prime minister.

Earlier, his elder brother and Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala had condemned the lathicharge on farmers during a protest on September 10.

India: Naxal terrorist wanted by three states arrested in MP's Balaghat

Balaghat (MP), Sep 17 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh police on Thursday arrested a naxal who carried a reward of Rs 12 lakh on his head, and was wanted in three states.

"On a tip off we arrested Badal Singh Markam (22) from Khatial Dalam of the naxals near here," said Balaghat Police Zone Inspector General K P Venkateshwar Rao.

"He carried a bounty of Rs five lakh, four lakh and three lakh, announced by Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and MP police, respectively," the IG said.

India: Prez accepts Food Processing Ind Min resignation

New Delhi, Sep 18 (PTI) President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday accepted the resignation of Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who had resigned in protest against three farm sector bills.

The Shiromani Akali Dal leader resigned on Thursday.

"The President of India, as advised by the prime minister, has accepted the resignation of Harsimrat Kaur Badal from the Union Council of Ministers, with immediate effect," the Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a statement.

India: Girl raped in UP's Banda, accused thrashed by her family

Banda (UP), Sep 18 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth who was then severely beaten up by her family members in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district, police said on Friday.

According to the FIR lodged on Wednesday by the mother of the girl, the incident took place last Saturday when the minor was on her way to home after attending to nature's call, police said.

The girl's mother has also registered a case against the gram pradhan and some others for threatening her family.

India: Debt-ridden farmer dies by suicide in UP's Hamirpur

Hamirpur (UP) Sep 18 (PTI) A 46-year-old farmer, who was under debt, allegedly hanged himself in Amireta Dera village in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district, officials said on Friday.

The farmer, Mahendra Verma, allegedly took the extreme step on Thursday, ADM Vinay Prakash Srivastava said.

The brother of the farmer told police that Verma had taken a loan of Rs 42,000 under the Kisan credit card from Aryavrat Bank and Rs 80,000 from Union Bank but had not been able to repay it.

India: Will Allen Forest Zoo open from coming Tuesday?

Kanpur: Did you know that the zoo will supposedly be opening for the visitors from September 22?

Though the conclusive decision rests on the report of the ADM (City) Atul Kumar, as was reported. 

The District Magistrate Alok Tiwari had sought a report on Corona procedure from his subordinate in this regard.

However, the zoo's assistant director A K Singh told that the DM has assured us to open the zoo sooner.

It would be noted here that since the zoo had been closed it remained shut in view of the Corona pandemic.

India: No infiltration along Sino-Indian border in last 6 months: Govt tells RS

New Delhi, Sep 16 (PTI) The government on Wednesday said there has been no infiltration along the Sino-Indian border in the last six months, while 47 infiltration bids have been reported along the Indo-Pak border during the period.

The Union Home Ministry also informed the Rajya Sabha that 594 attempts of infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistani militants have been reported in the last three years, of which 312 were successful.
