India: Alwar rape case; three cops suspended, another shifted

Jaipur, Mar 8 (PTI) Three policemen were suspended and another shifted after a sub-inspector allegedly raped a 26-year-old woman in Rajasthan's Alwar, an issue that was raised in the state assembly on Monday.

According to police, the woman who had gone to a police station to lodge a complaint against her husband was allegedly raped by Sub-Inspector Bharat Singh (52).

The case had surfaced on Sunday, after which the sub-inspector was arrested.

India: Bhavnagar shipbuilding park project on hold: Guj CM

Gandhinagar, Mar 8 (PTI) The Gujarat government on Monday informed the Assembly that a project to develop a shipbuilding park along the Bhavnagar coast has been put on hold for now in view of the recession in the sector.

The park, which was supposed to come up at Juna Bandar (old port) area of Bhavnagar, was among the two such projects approved by the Gujarat government in November 2009, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said in this written reply during Question Hour.

India: Rapist-killer from Assam sentenced to death in Kerala

Kochi, Mar 8 (PTI): An Additional District Sessions Court near here on Monday awarded death sentence to a 28-year-old man from Assam for raping and killing a 61-year-old woman at her house in Puthenvelikkara panchayat nearly three years ago.

The court in Paravur found that the case would fall in the category of rarest of the rare cases and ordered capital punishment to Parimal Sahu, who is called as Munna.

India: School bus driver held for raping Class 11 girl in UP

Bulandshahr (UP), Mar 8 (PTI) A school bus driver in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district has been arrested for allegedly raping a Class 11 student, police said on Monday.

The arrest has been made following a complaint by the teenager's uncle who claimed the incident took place in January this year, Bulandshahr Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Singh said.

"An FIR was lodged at the Anoopshahr police station after which the accused school bus driver has been arrested," Singh said.

India: Woman, daughter stabbed to death in UP's Agra

Agra, Mar 8 (PTI) A man allegedly stabbed a woman and her daughter to death in Agra's Bah area, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday night at Jarar village when Sharada Devi, 50, and her daughter Kamini, 19, were sleeping in their house.

Family members alleged that accused Govind entered their house and killed both with a knife.

He also attacked Sharda Devi's daughter-in-law Vimlesh when she tried to save them. She was injured in the incident and undergoing treatment at a hospital.

India: Farmers will head for Parliament if needed: Tikait

Sheopur (MP), Mar 8 (PTI) Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Singh Tikait on Monday said that lakhs of farmers in their tractors would reach Parliament to seek repeal of the three new farm laws if needed.

Tikait, one of the prominent leaders of farmer unions which are protesting against the Centre's new laws on Delhi borders, addressed a huge rally here.

"If needed, we, on lakhs of tractors will reach Parliament to press for the repeal of the three black laws.

India: Jewellery worth lakhs looted from shop in UP's capital Lucknow

Lucknow, Mar 8 (PTI) Three armed miscreants looted silver and gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees from a jewellery shop in the busy Ashiana locality of Lucknow on Monday, police said here.

The shop is located in Sector H, LDA Colony, and an FIR has been lodged in this connection, they said.

The shopkeeper, Deepak Rastogi, was attacked with the butt of a weapon when he tried to resist, the police said.

His son, Arnav, was held hostage briefly, they added.

India: Youth Cong wants Rahul as party chief

New Delhi, Mar 8 (PTI) The Indian Youth Congress on Monday pitched for Rahul Gandhi's return as the Congress chief, saying his leadership will strengthen the organisation and energise party workers.

The Youth Congress passed a resolution in this regard at the meeting of its national executive here.

"In view of the prevailing situation in our country, the National Executive of Indian Youth Congress jointly passes a resolution that Rahul Gandhi should be appointed as the President of the Indian National Congress," the resolution said.

India must prepare for borderless war: Rahul

New Delhi, Mar 9 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said the country must prepare for a borderless war as the past practice of a 2.5-front war has become obsolete.

"Indian forces are designed to fight a 2.5 front war. This is now obsolete. We must prepare for a borderless war," he wrote on Twitter.

"It's not about past practices and legacy systems. It's about transforming the way we think and act as a nation," the former Congress chief said.
