Muzaffarnagar (UP), Mar 7 (PTI) As thousands of farmers lay siege to Delhi borders for over 100 days demanding the repeal of three contentious farm laws, those staying back in Western Uttar Pradesh have to endure a different kind of long wait -- at times for multiple days just to get weighed quintals of sugarcane lying in tractor-trollies on their way from farms to mills.

Ranchi, Mar 7 (PTI) Alleging "unconstitutional harassment" by the Centre over funds, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said pushed to the brink, the state is now devising its own innovative resource generation mechanism for self-sustenance.

Alleging unequal treatment, the chief minister of the JMM-led alliance in the state said tribal-rich state has been all along exploited and plundered.

Soren was sworn in as the 11th chief minister of the state in December 2019.

India: Mamata to lead rally against fuel price hike in Siliguri

Siliguri (WB), Mar 6 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will lead a 'padayatra' here on Sunday to protest against the steep hike in fuel prices, including LPG cylinders.

Banerjee, following her arrival here from Kolkata on Saturday, told reporters that thousands of people, especially women, will assemble at Darjeeling More at 1 pm to join the protest march.

Claiming that LPG cylinders would soon be beyond the reach of common man, the CM said, "We need to organise massive demonstrations to make our voices heard."

India: Rape victim set ablaze by rapist dies in Jaipur hospital

Jaipur, Mar 6 (PTI) A 30-year-old rape victim who was allegedly set on fire at her home in Rajasthan's Hanumangarh succumbed to her burn injuries at Jaipur's SMS Hospital on Saturday, police said.

Police have detained two people, including the rape accused, for questioning in the case.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced a relief of Rs 5 lakh to the dead woman's family members, an official statement said.

India: Woman's death in Pune: BJP corporator summoned by cops

Pune, Mar 6 (PTI) A local BJP corporator has been summoned by the police in connection with the death of a 23- year-old woman in Pune, an official said on Saturday.

The case of the woman, who was found dead in Hadapsar on February 8, is at the centre of an acrimonious fight between the Maharashtra government and the opposition BJP, and has seen a Shiv Sena minister being linked to the incident resigning.

Jabalpur, Mar 6 (PTI) President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday evening performed Narmada `aarti' at Gwarighat on the banks of the Narmada river near here.

He was accompanied by Chief Justice of India S A Bobde, Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister for Culture Prahlad Patel.

Earlier in the day, the president inaugurated the All India State Judicial Academies Directors' Retreat at Manas Bhawan.

The president arrived here on Saturday morning on a two-day visit to Madhya Pradesh.

India: Poet-activist Varavara Rao discharged from hospital in Mumbai

Mumbai, Mar 7 (PTI) Poet-activist Varavara Rao, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, has been discharged from Nanavati Hospital here, sources said.

The 82-year-old activist, who was granted interim bail for six months on medical grounds by the Bombay High Court on February 22, was discharged from the private hospital late Saturday night, they said.

Rao, arrested in 2018, was admitted to the medical facility in November last year due to ill-health.
