India: Case filed in UP's Lalitpur for alleged raped in 2018

Lalitpur (UP), Mar 12 (PTI) An FIR has been lodged after a 22-year-old woman alleged that she was raped by a youth around two and half years ago after being given intoxicants, police said on Friday.

The case was filed at Talbehat Kotwali on Thursday against Ajaypal Singh Yadav alias Guddu, who also allegedly blackmailed the complainant using a video of the incident, they said.

Kanpur: 8-km journey from Mandhana to Bitthoor on broad gauge track will be possible only after approval of the railway board. A MEMU train trial on the new rail line was completed in presence of Mohd Lateef Khan, CRS, Eastern Railways and DRM Ashutosh Pant here recently. 

A detailed report will soon be forwarded to the Railway Board for running of the train on this newly laid track.

India: Delhi Uni teachers go on strike over no salaries for 6 months

New Delhi, Mar 11 (PTI) Thousands of Delhi University teachers went on a strike on Thursday to protest non-payment of salaries for the past six months.

The call for university "shutdown" was given by the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) on Tuesday as many employees of the 12 DU colleges, that are 100 per cent funded by Delhi government, alleged that they had not received their salaries and other dues for over six months.

India: Woman's charred body found in roadside bushes in UP's Fatehpur

Fatehpur (UP), Mar 11 (PTI) A charred body of an unidentified woman was found Thursday in roadside bushes in the Kalyanpur area of the Fatehpur district, police said.

The body of the woman, aged about 25 years, was spotted in bushes by the Muradipur-Bindki road by villagers who informed the police and the body was sent for postmortem, said Kalyanpur SHO Keshav Verma.

It appears the woman was killed somewhere else and her body dumped here and set afire, the SGHOP added.

India: UP khap panchayat bans jeans for women, shorts for men

Muzaffarnagar, Mar 10 (PTI) A khap panchayat in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district has barred women from wearing jeans and men from wearing shorts, saying they are part of western culture and that people should wear traditional Indian clothes.

The Rajput community panchayat also warned that those found violating the diktat will be punished and face boycott.

India: 4 BJP MLAs marshalled out of Delhi Assembly

New Delhi, Mar 10 (PTI) Four BJP MLAs were marshalled out of the Delhi Assembly during the ongoing Budget Session on Wednesday.

The BJP MLAs demanded a discussion on alleged corruption in the procurement of buses by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

Speaker Ram Niwas Goel told them he will allow a discussion on the issue on Thursday, but they persisted with their demand to hold it on Wednesday itself.

India: Tirath Singh Rawat sworn-in as new of Uttarakhand CM

Dehradun, Mar 10 (PTI) BJP's surprise choice for the top job in Uttarakhand Tirath Singh Rawat was sworn-in as the state's new chief minister on Wednesday, replacing Trivendra Singh Rawat ahead of next year's Assembly polls.

The oath of office was administered on Rawat by Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya at a simple function held at the Raj Bhawan here in the evening in the presence of a host of dignitaries.

Rawat alone was sworn-in on Wednesday, which means the members of his Cabinet will be finalised and sworn-in later.

India: MP court sentences man to 10 yrs RI for raping minor

Mandsaur, Mar 10 (PTI) A local court in Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur district has sentenced a 23-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl.

Second additional session judge Nisha Gupta on Tuesday convicted and sentenced Sureshnath Kalbelia under section 376 (rape) and other relevant provisions of the IPC and Protection of Children from the Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), special public prosecutor Nitesh Krishnan said.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 7,000 on the accused.

India: Two BJP MLAs quit party in Assam ahead of state poll

Guwahati, Mar 10 (PTI) Two lawmakers of the ruling BJP in poll-bound Assam quit the party on Wednesday after they were denied tickets to contest in the coming state poll.

The two - former deputy speaker Dilip Kumar Paul and controversial MLA Shiladitya Dev in separate press conferences alleged conspiracies against them in the party.

On Sunday, BJP cabinet minister in Assam Sum Ronghang joined the opposition Congress after he was denied ticket from Diphu constituency.
