Israel escalates crimes against Palestinians as world turns to Ukraine

10 March 2022; MEMO: A member of the PLO's Executive Committee said on Wednesday that Israel is escalating its crimes and violations against Palestinians as the eyes of the world turn to Ukraine. Saleh Rafat made his comment as the people of occupied Palestine mourn those killed by Israel recently in Jerusalem, Ramallah, Jenin, Nablus and Burqa.

Tunisia releases Bhiri after 67 days in detention

08 March 2022; MEMO: The Tunisian Ministry of Interior yesterday released the deputy head of the Ennahda party, Noureddine Bhiri, after detaining him for more than two months. He has been transferred to a hospital in the north of the country, after his health deteriorated.

Bhiri's defence team published a video documenting the moment of his release. It showed him being congratulated on his release in an ambulance.

USA: Discrimination against Sikhs have increased; lawmakers told

Washington, Mar 8 (PTI) Religious discrimination and hate crime against the Sikh community in the United States has increased in recent years, an eminent human rights expert has told the lawmakers urging the administration and the US Congress to take steps to end this.

Congress must take action, Amrith Kaur Aakre told members of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties during a recent Congressional hearing on Discrimination and Civil Right.

Aakre is legal director of the Sikh Coalition.

Israel wants to demolish 800 Palestinian homes in occupied Jerusalem

07 March 2022; MEMO: The Israeli occupation municipality in Jerusalem wants to demolish 800 Palestinian homes in the Jabal Al-Mukaber neighbourhood, Al-Resalah reported on Sunday. According to Tariq Owaisat of the Follow-up Committee in Jabal Al-Mukaber, the municipality wants to destroy the homes to make way for a commercial centre and 500 housing units for Jews.

Syria opposition slams West's 'double standards' over response to Ukraine war

05 March 2022; MEMO: The Syrian opposition has condemned the West's "double standards" in its reaction to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in comparison to the Russian bombardment of Syria, as well as difference in treatment towards both countries' refugees.

Speaking to the Turkish Anadolu Agency, the head of the Syrian Negotiation Commission, Anas Al-Abdah, expressed his disappointment at Western nations' difference in their approach towards aiding the Ukrainian government and the Syrian opposition.

USA: Kamala Harris marks 1965 'Bloody Sunday', fight for the right to vote

Selma (Alabama), Mar 7 (AP) Vice President Kamala Harris has visited Selma, Alabama to commemorate a defining moment in the fight for the right to vote, making her trip as congressional efforts to restore the landmark 1965 Voting Rights Act have faltered.

Under a blazing blue sky, Harris on Sunday took the stage at the foot of the bridge where in 1965 white state troopers attacked Black voting rights marchers attempting to cross.

India: Woman found dead in UP village, rape suspected

Chitrakoot (UP), Mar 6 (PTI) A 20-year-old woman was found dead on Sunday in a village in Mau area here, with police suspecting that she was raped before being killed.

Superintendent of Police Dhawal Jaiswal said injury marks on the woman's neck suggested that she was strangulated.

The woman was missing since Saturday evening, he said, adding that some persons have been detained in connection with the case.

Prima facie the woman was raped and killed, Jaiswal said.

Palestine: Israel settler shoots, wounds 4 Palestinians in Hebron

05 March 2022; MEMO: An extremist Israeli settler opened fire on Friday at Palestinians in the West Bank city of Hebron, wounding four people, including three children, Wafa News Agency reported.

Witnesses told Wafa that an armed Israeli settler opened fire on the four Palestinians while they were outside the illegal Israeli settlement of Bat Romano, located in the heart of the city.

Palestine: Dozens injured in intense West Bank clashes with occupation

05 March 2022; MEMO: Dozens of civilians have been injured and suffocated in clashes that broke out in several occupied West Bank cities, between hundreds of youths and Israeli occupation forces.

The revolting youths targeted settlers' vehicles with stones on the settlement road near the town of Azzun, east of Qalqilya. The occupation then deployed forces extensively in the area, searching for the youths.
