UN General Assembly declares 15 March International Day to Combat Islamophobia

16 March 2022; MEMO: The UN General Assembly adopted, by consensus on Tuesday, a resolution declaring 15 March as International Day to Combat Islamophobia, Anadolu News Agency reports.

The Resolution was introduced by Pakistan on behalf of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. It marks the day when a gunman entered two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, killing 51 victims, and injuring 40 others.

Arab League calls for international protection for Palestinians

16 March 2022; MEMO: The Arab League called on Tuesday for the UN Security Council and other international bodies to assume their responsibilities and provide protection for the Palestinian people. The organisation's statement was issued hours after Israeli occupation forces killed three Palestinians, two in the occupied West Bank and the third in the Arab town of Rahat inside Israel itself.

Palestine: Jewish settlers uproot Palestinian's olive trees in occupied West Bank

16 March 2022; MEMO: Jewish settlers uprooted 200 olive saplings on Tuesday in the occupied West Bank, Wafa has reported. The owner of the land near Salfit where the incident took place, Azmi Hamdan, said that the Israeli settlers then stole most of the saplings.

The settlers have been harassing the Palestinian residents in the area of Khelet Hassan, in order to build a new illegal settlement as part of a ring of settler-colonies between Salfit and the city of Qalqilya.

US students block university funding for 'propaganda trip to apartheid Israel'

14 March 2022; MEMO: In a boost for the academic boycott of Israel, students at America's Georgetown University have successfully blocked funding for a trip to the occupation state and cut all institutional links to a group called itrek. The pro-Israel group organises "propaganda trips to apartheid Israel" and is said to have received funding direct from the Israeli government.

Palestine: PA condemns Israeli chief of staff's remarks about invading Gaza

15 March 2022; MEMO: The Palestinian Authority condemned on Monday the remarks by Israel's Chief of Staff, General Aviv Kochavi, about invading the Gaza Strip. Such remarks, said the PA, show blatant "disregard for the international community and its laws and conventions."

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, the PA added that Kochavi's comment also reflects the international double standards and turning of a blind eye towards Israeli violations against the Palestinians.

India: HC issues notice to MP govt over 1973 law on begging

Indore, Mar 14 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh High Court's Indore bench on Monday sought a reply from the state government on a PIL challenging the constitutional validity of a nearly five-decade-old law banning begging.

The law empowers police to arrest beggars without a court warrant.

A division bench comprising Justices Vivek Rusia and Amarnath Kesharwani issued a notice to the state government, seeking its reply, while hearing the PIL (Public Interest Litigation) filed by a non-government organization, Matru Foundation.

Israel army ready to invade Gaza

14 March 2022; MEMO: Chief of Staff of Israeli Army, Aviv Kohavi, has claimed that his army is ready to invade Gaza and other Palestinian cities more effectively than what happened in Jenin in 2002, Arab48 reported yesterday.

Israel's Kan 11 reported Kohavi speaking on the 20th anniversary of the invasion of Jenin along with other West Bank cities in 2002 in an attempt to suppress the Second Intifada.

14 March 2022; MEMO: An Egyptian squash player has used his victory speech at the Optasia Championship at Wimbledon Club to ask why sports people are allowed to talk about Ukraine but not about Palestine.

"No one should accept any killings in the world, or oppression, but we've never been allowed to speak about politics in sports, but all of a sudden now it's allowed," said Ali Farag.
