French court annuls decision to close Al Farouk Mosque

24 March 2022; MEMO: A French court, on Wednesday, annulled the government's decision to close a mosque near the city of Bordeaux, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Sefen Guez Guez, the lawyer of the Association of the Al Farouk Mosque, said that the Bordeaux Administrative Court annulled the Gironde Governorate's 14 March decision to close the mosque for six months.

Noting that the court's decision was a step against the "unfair" closure of mosques in recent years, Guez added that Muslims can come together in the mosque.

UN investigator finds Israel is practicing apartheid in occupied territories

24 March 2022; MEMO: A UN special rapporteur on Monday accused Israel of committing the crime of apartheid in the occupied Palestinian territories.

UN-appointed investigator, Michael Lynk, has been investigating rights abuses in the occupied Palestinian territories. He said the situation on the ground met the legal definition of apartheid set out by international law.

The system, he added, ensures Israeli domination over Palestinians.

Julian Assange marries fiancee in London prison

23 March 2022; MEMO: Julian Assange married his fiancee, Stella Moris, in a London prison on Wednesday, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Assange, 50, remains in Belmarsh prison as he continues to fight extradition to the US.

He has two children with Moris, a 38-year-old lawyer.

Moris' wedding dress was designed by Vivienne Westwood and her veil was embroidered with messages such as "valiant, wild and relentless."

South Africa: probe launched into SA citizens fighting in Israel Defence Forces

23 March 2022; MEMO: A probe was launched in Cape Town this morning to look into South African citizens enlisting in the Israel Defence Forces. The South African Zionist Terrorism Corridor Probe is a "comprehensive criminal docket" based upon "sustainable and irrefutable evidence" which has been submitted to the South African Police Services and the National Director of Public Prosecutions.

Abbas urges end to Israel's looting of Palestinian water

22 March 2022; MEMO: Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, on Tuesday, called for halting Israel's looting of Palestinian water resources, Anadolu News Agency reports.

"How long will the world remain silent about the fate and life of our Palestinian people being held hostage by the [Israeli] occupier through its racist practices and its control over our resources and our legitimate rights?" Abbas said in a speech marking World Water Day.

Egypt, UAE, Israel leaders meet in Sharm El-Sheikh

23 March 2022; MEMO: Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and de facto ruler of the UAE, Mohammed Bin Zayed held a two-day summit in the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh.

A statement issued by Bennett's office said: "The leaders discussed the ties between the three countries in the context of recent developments in the world and the region, and the ways to strengthen them on all levels."
