Palestine prisoner dies in unclear circumstances inside Israeli jail

03 September 2022; MEMO: A 40-year-old Palestinian prisoner has died in an Israeli hospital in yet unclear circumstances, the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) announced on Saturday morning.

In a statement, the PPS said that Mousa Abu Mahameed, from the Bethlehem village of Beit Tamar, died this morning at Asaf Harofeh hospital in Israel.

Israeli settlers destroy water pipes to Palestinian village

02 September 2022; MEMO: Israeli settlers yesterday destroyed water pipes in Kisan village, east of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank.

A village council member, Ahmed Ghazal, told Safa Press Agency that settlers cut the water pipes network in Wadi Abyan area. As a result, the water supply was cut off to a number of houses in the village.

In another incident in Bethlehem, Israeli occupation forces opened fire at a Palestinian vehicle in the Aqba Hasna area.

Hamas condemns Israel for allowing concerts at Beersheba Mosque

03 September 2022; MEMO: The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas on Friday condemned the Israeli government for allowing the organisation of a series of concerts at Beersheba Great Mosque.

In a statement, Hamas expressed: "We condemn with the strongest terms the Israeli occupation's agreement to hold a series of concerts and festivals at Beersheba Great Mosque."

India: Twitter defiant to laws of the land: Centre tells K'taka HC

Bengaluru, Sep 2 (PTI) The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in its 101-page statement of objections before the Karnataka High Court has termed the microblogging platform Twitter of being defiant to the laws of the land.

The case is slated to be heard on September 8. MeitY filed its statement of objections to the court on Thursday.

India: SC grants interim bail to activist Setalvad

New Delhi, Sep 2 (PTI) The Supreme Court Friday granted interim bail to social activist Teesta Setalvad, arrested on June 25 for allegedly fabricating evidence to frame "innocent people" in the 2002 Gujarat riots cases.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and justices S Ravindra Bhat and Sudhanshu Dhulia asked Setalvad to surrender her passport with trial court till the time the Gujarat High Court decides her regular bail plea.

Israel court sentences Gaza aid worker to 12 years in prison

01 September 2022; MEMO: The Beersheba district court in southern Israel on Tuesday sentenced former Palestinian aid worker with World Vision to 12 years in prison on allegations of "financing terrorism".

Mohammed El-Halabi's lawyer, Maher Hana, said that he would appeal the conviction to the Supreme Court as much of the evidence against him was kept secret, with Israel citing "security concerns", prompting his legal team to question the verdict's legitimacy.

Palestinian prisoners suspend mass hunger strike after Israel meets their demands

02 September 2022; MEMO: Palestinian prisoners have suspended a mass hunger strike scheduled to start yesterday after the Israeli prison administration accepted their demands to reverse punitive measures imposed against them for months, the Supreme National Emergency Committee of the National Captive Movement, which manages the prisoners' protests, said in a statement.

UN Envoy arrives in Gaza for talks with Palestinian officials

02 September 2022; MEMO: United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, arrived in the Gaza Strip on Thursday for talks with Palestinian officials in the territory, Anadolu News Agency reports.

The envoy crossed into Gaza from Israel through the Erez terminal, a local security source said.

No information was provided about the meetings the UN Envoy will hold in Gaza.
