Israeli security forces uproot 100 olive trees in occupied West Bank

30 August 2022; MEMO: Israeli occupation forces uprooted 100 olive trees on Monday in the vicinity of Sair, east of the occupied West Bank city of Hebron, Anadolu has reported.

The Mayor of the Palestinian town, Mousa Al-Faroukh, said that the Israeli forces uprooted the trees in order to take over the Palestinian-owned land and get it ready for its de facto annexation by the illegal Jewish settlement of Asfar. The army, he added, wants the land for an additional watchtower for the settlement.

Israel forces sexually harass Palestinian minors in prisons: Report

30 August 2022; MEMO: Palestinian minors being held in Israeli jails have been subjected to sexual harassment by officers from Israeli Nahshon Battalion, Quds Press reported yesterday.
According to the news site, the PLO's Commission for Prisoners and Freed Prisoners reported that several minors detained in Maggedo Prison "had been subject to sexual harassment by officers from Israeli Nahshon forces."

The detained boys said "they had been harassed intentionally by the Nahshon forces several times."

Egypt's ex-presidential candidate suffers fourth heart attack in jail

30 August 2022; MEMO: Egypt's former presidential candidate Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh has just had his fourth heart attack in prison, following a prolonged period in detention without proper medical attention.

Just one week ago Aboul Fotouh's son said that authorities in Al-Mazraa Prison were refusing to carry out a medical examination on him and that his father was "subject to a slow death" in detention.

Israeli court extends detention of Islamic Jihad leader Bassam al-Saadi

29 August 2022; MEMO: An Israeli military court extended on Sunday the detention of senior Islamic Jihad leader Bassam al-Saadi, from the West Bank city of Jenin, until Wednesday, Palestine Prisoners' Club (PPC) said.

The PCC said in a brief statement that the Israeli military court in Ofer Prison in the occupied West Bank postponed its sentence against Al-Saadi to 31 August.

Turkiye's Communications Directorate holds panel on UNSC reforms in Stockholm

26 August 2022; MEMO: Turkiye's Communications Directorate, on Thursday, organised the sixth panel in a series on UN Security Council reforms in the Swedish capital city Stockholm, Anadolu News Agency reports.

The Council needs to be reformed in order to make the UN more democratic and better-functioning, political scientist, Hans Agne, said at the event, titled "United Nations Security Council Reform: A New Approach to Reconstruction of the International Order".

Syria: US-Iran clash over oil-rich areas

27 August 2022; MEMO: Bloody clashes between the US and Iran's proxies have occurred in oil-rich Deir ez-Zur, where both have a strategic existence, The New Khalij reported on Friday.

Deir ez-Zur is the largest city in eastern Syria and the seventh largest in the war-torn country. It is located 450 kilometres (280 miles) northeast of Damascus, with the Euphrates River passing through it.

US presence in Syria illegal; Iran Foreign Ministry

27 August 2022; MEMO: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani announced on Friday that the US military presence in Syria is illegal.

Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported that Kanaani expressed: "Condemnation of the recent American aggression against defenders of Syria's independence and territorial integrity."

US-based Evangelical Christian group seizes Palestinian land

26 August 2022; MEMO: US evangelical group HaYovel has recently sent letters to its supporters raising funds to plant 3,000 trees by the end of this year as part of the "Make Israel Green" project which aims to plant trees on land seized from Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

The organisation has already planted a forest in the illegal Har Brakha settlement, south of Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank.

Russia condemns Israel missile strikes on Syria

24 August 2022; MEMO: Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov yesterday condemned Israeli missile strikes on Syria, Reuters reported.

Lavrov was speaking at a joint news conference alongside his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Mekdad.

Russia is a key backer of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and his government.

"We strongly condemned the dangerous practice of Israeli strikes on Syrian territory," Lavrov said.
