German court rules sacking of Palestinian journalist using IHRA was unlawful

06 Sep 2022; MEMO: Palestinian journalist, Farah Maraqa, has won an unfair dismissal case against Deutsche Welle (DW) seven months after being suspended by the German media network over allegation of anti-Semitism. A German court ruled today that her dismissal on charges of anti-Semitism was "legally unjustified" after the initial hearing on 20 July 2022.

US collects details of Israeli battalion serving in occupied West Bank

07 Sep 2022; MEMO: The US State Department is working on a report about an Israeli army battalion operating in the occupied West Bank following the killing of Palestinian-American grandfather Omar Asad, 80, at the beginning of this year, Haaretz reported on Tuesday.

Israel to legalise farm outposts across occupied West Bank

06 Sep 2022; MEMO: Israel's Civil Administration is working towards legalising farm outposts based across the occupied West Bank using new regulations, reported Haaretz.

Around 30 to 35 illegal outposts meet the basic criteria which includes being located on "state-owned land".

The implementation of the new system will require the approval of Defence Minister Benny Gantz and the Israeli Ministry of Justice.

Israel air attack damages Syria's Aleppo Airport

06 Sep 2022; MEMO: An Israeli air attack on Syria's Aleppo Airport on Tuesday has damaged the runway and taken it out of service, Syrian state media quoted a military source as saying, Reuters reports.

The Israel missile attack was launched from the Mediterranean Sea, west of the coastal city of Latakia, at 8:16 p.m. local time (1716 GMT), the source said.

Syrian air defences intercepted Israeli missiles, downing several of them, the Syrian state news agency, (SANA), reported earlier on Tuesday.

Over 300 filmmakers reject Israeli fund in protest against 'apartheid mechanism'

05 Sep 2022; MEMO: In one of the largest protests against Israeli apartheid, more than 300 filmmakers signed a petition in which they refuse to cooperate with the Shomron Film Fund.  Oscar-nominated filmmakers were amongst the signatories who slammed the fund as being "part of the apartheid mechanism". Shomron is the Hebrew word for Samaria – which is the Biblical name of the occupied West Bank.

Israel: racist demand for declaration of love interest prompts rare US condemnation

05 Sep 2022; MEMO: The US Ambassador to Israel has said that he has "aggressively engaged" with the Israeli government over its new rules for foreigners visiting the occupied West Bank. The rules devised by COGAT, the Israeli Defence Ministry body concerned with Palestinian civil affairs, have been widely condemned.

Myanmar court convicts Suu Kyi of vote fraud, adds jail time

Bangkok, Sep 2 (AP/PTI) A court in Myanmar on Friday sentenced ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi to three years' imprisonment with labour after finding her guilty of election fraud, adding more jail time to the 17 years she is already serving for other offenses prosecuted by the military government.

The latest verdict also carries potentially significant political consequences for Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy party by lending support to the government's explicit threats to dissolve it before a new election the military has promised for 2023.

Israel refuses to release Ahmad Manasra, who was detained at 13

03 September 2022; MEMO: The Israeli Beersheba District Court yesterday rejected an appeal to remove the "terrorism" classification under which Palestinian prisoner Ahmad Manasra is being held, in spite of the fact that he was detained at the age of 13 in a brutal manner, violently interrogated without an adult or lawyer present and then held in jail even though he did not carry out a crime.
