Rights groups ask Israel to stop sales of phone hacking tool to Uganda

17 August 2022; MEMO: Human rights groups asked the Israeli Defence Ministry to stop permitting a company to sell its phone hacking tool to Uganda, claiming it is used for rights abuses, Haaretz reports.

According to the report, Israeli software company, Cellebrite, has sold its UFED phone-hacking software to the Ugandan police and security services.

International human rights groups signed on to the letter sent to the Defence Ministry against arms sales to human rights violators.

OIC challenged over failure to stand up for Palestinian Rights

15 August 2022; MEMO: NGOs and Civil Society Networks from Europe, Asia, North America and Africa have signed an open letter to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation criticising their silence over the recent attacks on Palestinians and their increasing silence over the issue of Palestine.

The letter, organised by the Decolonial International Network and the Universal Justice Network, is co-signed by dozens of organisations and networks from as far afield as Nigeria, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Iran, UK, Lebanon and Pakistan.

Palestine: Israeli settler rams car into Palestinian protester

12 August 2022; MEMO: An Israeli settler rammed his car into Palestinian activist Bayan Al-Tabib on Thursday evening during a peaceful protest against settler and army attacks against Palestinians. The attack took place on a main road linking the cities of Nablus and Jenin in the Israeli-occupied northern West Bank, Anadolu has reported.

UN team visits Bassam Al-Saadi in Israel's Ofer Prison

11 August 2022; MEMO: The UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, announced yesterday evening that a delegation from the international body visited the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement leader, Bassam Al-Saadi, in Israel's Ofer prison.

Wennesland said, in a tweet: "Today, I dispatched a UN team to visit Sheikh Al-Sa'di in Ofer prison to follow-up on UN commitments to maintain calm in Gaza."
