India: Thackeray declares assets worth Rs 143 crore, has no car

Mumbai, May 11 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, contesting his first election for a constitutional post, has declared that he and his family have assets worth Rs 143.26 crore, including movable and immovable property, but he does not own a car.

He has put liabilities at Rs 15.50 crore, including loans.

India: BJP MLA surrenders in extortion case

Dhanbad (Jharkhand), May 11 (PTI) BJP MLA Dhulu Mahto, who is facing various charges including extortion, on Monday surrendered before the Dhanbad chief judicial magistrate who remanded him to 14 days' judicial custody.

Mahto was absconding since February 19 when police raided his house at Barora area in Dhanbad in connection with the cases.

Accompanied by his advocate S N Mukherjee, the legislator reached the residence of the CJM, Sangita, as courts are closed due to lockdown.

India: Struggling to survive in lockdown transgender kills self

Mumbai, May 11 (PTI) A 38-year-old HIV-positive transgender committed suicide by hanging herself near a school on Monday in Malvani area of suburban Malad, apparently due to the loss of livelihood and unavailability of medicine amidst the coronavirus-induced lockdown, police said.

The transgender was struggling to make both ends meet and had exhausted stock of grocery and food due to the lockdown, as she had lost her source of livelihood, an official said.

Another trigger was unavailability of medicine for her medical condition, the official said.

India: 2 more BSF personnel test COVID-19 positive in Tripura

Agartala, May 11 (PTI) Two more Border Security Force (BSF) jawans tested positive for coronavirus in Tripura on Monday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 154, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said.

"In a massive COVID19 test among 750 civilian and BSF in Dhalai dist today, 2 BSF officials were found COVID-19 positive. All patients are responding well to the treatment.

With the blessings of Mata Tripurasundari soon our state will be corona free," Deb tweeted.

India: CISF official posted in Kolkata succumbs to coronavirus

New Delhi, May 12 (PTI) A Central Industrial Security Force personnel posted in Kolkata has succumbed to coronavirus, taking the virus death toll in the force to three, officials said on Tuesday.

This is the sixth death in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) or paramilitary forces, under the command of the Union home ministry, due to COVID-19 with two casualties in the Border Security Force and one in the Central Reserve Police Force.

India: 18 more arrested by CID in Palghar lynching case

Mumbai, May 12 (PTI) Eighteen more people have been arrested by Maharashtra Police's CID in the Palghar lynching case, officials said on Tuesday.

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) is probing the incident in which three persons, including two seers, who were lynched by a mob of villagers in neighbouring Palghar district last month.

India: Former PM Manmohan Singh discharged from AIIMS

New Delhi, May 11 (PTI) Former prime minister Manmohan Singh, who was admitted to the AIIMS here after suffering reaction to a new medication, was discharged on Tuesday.

The 87-year-old Congress leader was discharged around 12:30 pm, hospital sources said.

Singh was shifted to a private ward in the Cardio-Neuro tower on Monday night. He was also tested for COVID-19 and his results had come out negative, the sources said.

India: Two migrant workers die of cardiac arrest in Shramik Special trains

Satna/Betul (MP), May 12 (PTI) Two passengers of Shramik Special trains died of cardiac arrest in separate incidents in Madhya Pradesh, police said on Tuesday.

A migrant worker travelling to Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district and another person returning to Bihar's Aurangabad district died in special trains in the last two days, an official said.

Akhilesh Kumar Rana, who worked at a hotel in Pune, was returning to his hometown in Gonda district, when he fell ill and was disembarked at Majhgawa railway station in Satna district on Monday, he said.

India: Migrant woman on way to UP gives birth on NH-3

Barwani (MP), May 12 (PTI) A 30-year old woman who was traveling from Mumbai to Uttar Pradesh in a truck with her migrant labourer husband gave birth to a baby boy in Madhya Pradesh's Barwani district, an official said on Tuesday.

The woman, named Deepa, began to have labour pains so her husband had the truck stopped at Balsamud Barrier on the intervening night of May 10 and 11, said a local official.

India: Sharjeel Imam moves HC against order giving time to police to complete probe under UAPA

New Delhi, May 11 (PTI) Former JNU student Sharjeel Imam moved the Delhi High Court Monday challenging trial court's order granting more time to the police to conclude investigation in the case related to alleged inflammatory speeches during the protests against CAA and NRC.

The plea was mentioned before the high court and is likely to be listed on May 14.
