Indian Rlys makes installing Aarogya Setu mobile app 'mandatory' for travel

New Delhi, May 12 (PTI) The Indian Railways, which had on Monday "advised" the passengers availing the special trains that started operating on Tuesday to install the government's Aarogya Setu mobile application, has now made it "mandatory" to do so.

While the guidelines issued by the railways for the 15 pairs of special trains running between Delhi and major cities of the country did not say installing the mobile app was mandatory, a late night (12:24 am) tweet by the railway ministry made it compulsory.

Indian PM non-committal on helping states tide over fiscal woes: CM

Puducherry, May 12 (PTI) Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy has claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was non-committal on fiscal assistance to states despite them apprising him of the financial sufferings during a video conference.

Therefore, there was no other option for the Union Territory except to borrow from the Reserve Bank of India to tide over the current fiscal crisis, he told reporters here on Monday night after participating in the video conference of chief ministers with Modi.

India: CRPF jawan killed in Chhattisgarh Naxal encounter

New Delhi, May 11 (PTI) A CRPF jawan was killed in an encounter with Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Monday, officials said.

They said the encounter took place in the Uripal forest area of the district at about 2 PM when a team of the Central Reserve Police Force and district reserve guard of the state police was out for a search operation.

Constable Munna Yadav, 32, of the 170th battalion of the CRPF has been killed in action, they said.

The deceased hailed from the Sahibganj district of Jharkhand.

India: COVID-19: 3 Tihar jail inmates quarantined

New Delhi, May 11 (PTI) Three inmates of Tihar Jail have been put under quarantine after one of them, a rape accused, is suspected to have come in contact with a coronavirus-infected person, jail officials said on Monday.

They said the man was lodged in a separate cell in central jail number 2 of Tihar along with two other inmates in a rape case and did not show any symptoms for COVID-19.

India: Man booked for sedition for 'free Goa' online petition

Panaji, May 11 (PTI) A man was on Monday booked for sedition for starting an online petition demanding "freedom" for Goa, a police official said.

Crime Branch Inspector Chetan Patil said a case under section 124A of the Indian Penal Code was registered against one Atnasia Lobo after an NGO called Revolutionary Indian filed a complaint last week.

"We are on the lookout for accused Atnasio Lobo," said Patil.

India: Centre ignoring domestic migrant workers

Mumbai, May 11 (PTI) Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut on Monday targeted the Centre for not making sufficient transport facility for migrant labourers to return home in the coronavirus-enforced lockdown but arranging special flights to bring back Indians stranded abroad.

He took potshots, through a cartoon, at the BJP-led government at the Centre over its 'Vande Bharat' mission and wondered if domestic migrant workers are paying the price for staying back in the country.

India: Rajasthan CM seeks job guarantee scheme for urban areas

Jaipur, May 11 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday suggested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to launch an employment guarantee scheme for urban areas on the lines of the MGNREGA.

In a video conference with the prime minister, Gehlot said the lockdown has badly affected daily wagers due to which the Centre should come up with an employment generation scheme for the urban poor.

India: Kerala seeks "flexiblity" in making changes in lockdown

Thiruvananthapuram, May 11 (PTI): Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday suggested to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that states should have the "flexiblity" in changing lockdown guidelines and allowing public and Metro rail services by following social distancing norms, except in red zones.

Vijayan, who spoke during the video conference held by Modi with state Chief Ministers, also suggested that anti body test be conducted on expatriates before they arrive here from various countries.
