Delhi violence: Brinda Karat move HC for early hearing in plea to make public list of arrests

New Delhi, May 9 (PTI) CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat has approached the Delhi High Court seeking an early hearing in her plea for directions to police to make public the list of people arrested in connection with communal violence in northeast Delhi in February this year.

The application for preponing the date of hearing of the petition is likely to be listed on May 12.

Delhi HC declines to entertain plea to link metro card with address proof

New Delhi, May 9 (PTI) A plea seeking linking of a metro card or token with a commuter's address proof was not entertained by the Delhi High Court as no representation about the issue had been made to the DMRC before moving the court.

A bench of justices Manmohan and Sanjeev Narula disposed of the plea, but gave petitioners liberty to move a representation before the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on the issues raised in the plea.

Tamil Nadu moves SC against HC order for closure of liquor outlets

New Delhi, May 9 (PTI) The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday moved the Supreme Court challenging a Madras High Court order for closure of state-run liquor outlets on grounds of violations of COVID-19 guidelines, arguing that it would lead to "grave losses" in revenue and complete halt in commercial activities.

The Madras High Court had on Friday ordered closure of liquor outlets noting that there were huge crowds and no social distancing was being maintained by tipplers. It, however, allowed doorstep delivery of booze through online mode.

India: Mulayam Singh Yadav discharged from hospital

Lucknow, May 9 (PTI) Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav was discharged from a Lucknow hospital where he was admitted after he complained of stomach and urine-related issues.

The Samajwadi Party founder, admitted to Medanta Hospital on Wednesday, was discharged on Saturday afternoon and he is fine now, party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said.

India: Arrange transportation of 9.5k migrant workers to home, Conress will pay their fare

New Delhi, May 9(PTI) The Delhi Congress has forwarded two lists of nearly 9,500 migrant workers to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal saying that they want to return back to their native states and the party is ready to pay for their train fares.

A day after sending names of 2,106 migrants to Kejriwal, Delhi Congress president Anil Kumar on Saturday sent another list of 7,299 workers from various states, saying that they have approached the party seeking its help in their transportation from Delhi to their native states.

India: Man arrested for `raping' nine-year-old girl

Rajgarh (MP), May 9 (PTI) A man was arrested in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl, police said.

Indar Singh Tanwar (23) lured the girl by offering her Rs 100 when she was on her way to the fields and allegedly raped her behind a tree on Friday, said a police officer.

Kotwali police station in-charge D P Lohia said the girl told her family members about the incident after returning home, and a complaint was filed.

India: Delhi doctor suicide case: AAP MLA Jarwal arrested

New Delhi, May 9 (PTI) The Delhi Police on Saturday arrested Aam Aadmi Party MLA Prakash Jarwal and co-accused Kapil Nagar in connection with the suicide case of a doctor here last month, officials said.

Jarwal and Nagar were called for questioning on Saturday evening and later arrested, police said.

On Friday, a Delhi court issued non-bailable warrant (NBW) against the MLA in connection with the case.

India: Kerala has flattened the coronavirus curve

Thiruvananthapuram, May 9 (PTI) Kerala on Saturday continued to maintain that it flattened the coronavirus curve, with just two fresh cases of expatriates being reported and 16 active cases remaining in hospitals.

"On the 100th day of confirmation of the first case of COVID, Kerala flattened the curve.

Only 16 active cases remain in hospitals.

We are bracing ourselves for the 3rd wave," state Finance Minister Isaac had tweeted earlier in the day.

New Delhi, May 9 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday demanded audit of PM CARES Fund and said the account of money received and spent be made public.

On March 28, the Centre set up the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM CARES) Fund with the primary objective to deal with any kind of emergency situation like the one currently posed by the COVID-19 outbreak and provide relief to those affected.
