India: Mob hurls stones at police in Ahmedabad, 15 detained

Ahmedabad, May 8 (PTI) An agitated mob pelted stones at policemen who were enforcing lockdown in Shahpur area of Ahmedabad city on Friday evening, a senior official said.

Shahpur, a minority community-dominated area, is in `Red Zone' as several coronavirus cases have been found in the locality.

While a police inspector was injured in the stone-pelting, 15 persons were detained by police.

Police lobbed 30 teargas shells to disperse the mob, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Patel.

India: Woman set on fire after she resists molestation

Korba, May 8 (PTI) A 27-year-old woman suffered serious burn injuries after she was set on fire by three men when she resisted their molestation bid in Chhattisgarh's Korba district, police said on Friday.

The incident took place on the night of May 6 at a village under Bango police station limits.

The accused were arrested on Thursday, said Pankaj Patel, Sub Divisional Officer of Police, Katghora area.

India: Stranded due to lockdown, 3 truck drivers die in Odishas

Dhenkanal, May 8 (PTI) Three truck drivers died on Friday after they fell sick in Odishas Dhenkanal district where they were stranded due to the COVID-19 triggered lockdown, police said.

The three had fallen sick in front of a sugar factory at Haripur on the outskirt of Dhenkanal town. They were found unconscious by some other truck drivers who arranged to rush the trio to the hospital, they said.

While one of them died on the spot, another died at Dhenkanal district headquarters hospital, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Dhenkanal, Sriharsa Mishra said.

India: Migrants clash with cops in Surat, over 100 detained

Surat, May 9 (PTI) Hundreds of migrant workers came onto the streets and clashed with the police at a village in Surat district of Gujarat on Saturday to demand that they either be sent back to their home states or allowed to resume work at local industrial units to earn money, police said.

The police resorted to lathi charge and fired tear gas to disperse the mob. Over a 100 workers were detained in this connection, an official said.

The incident took place at Mora village near industrial town of Hazira.

India: Five held in Kerala for holding prayers at mosque

Thrissur(Ker), May 9 (PTI) Five people were arrested for allegedly conducting congregational prayers at a mosque here in violationofthe COVID-19 lockdown norms.

A case was registered against five people for conducting evening prayers on Friday, police said.

On receiving information that prayers were being conducted at the Eriyad Masjidul Bilal mosque here, the police reached the spot and arrested the five, who were later let off on station bail.
