India: Bring MLA, MPs under right to recall: Hooda

Chandigarh, Nov 7 (PTI) Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday asserted that the right to recall must be first applicable on MLAs and MPs and only then it should be allowed for members of panchayati raj institutions.

"The right to recall should be implemented for MLAs and MPs first. After that it should be taken to the lower level," Hooda, who is the Leader of Opposition in the Haryana Assembly, said.

India: Bihar has voted for change: Cong

New Delhi, Nov 7 (PTI) With the exit polls for Bihar out, the Congress on Saturday said Bihar has voted for change.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said exit polls are interesting as they provided employment to some people who use small samples, but people speak up at the end.

"We are confident that Bihar has voted for a change and Bihar will vote for the change," he told reporters.

India: TN CM hails Kamala Harris' "astounding victory"

Chennai, Nov 8 (PTI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami on Sunday greeted US President-elect Joe Biden and vice president-elect Kamala Harris and particularly recalled her Tamil Nadu roots.

Democrat Joe Biden on Saturday defeated incumbent Republican US President Donald Trump in the closely-fought US presidential elections.

In a tweet, Palaniswami expressed joy over Harris becoming the first woman to be elected as vice-president of the US following her "astounding victory."

India: Man held for abducting, raping minor girl in UP

Ballia (UP), Nov 8 (PTI) A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly abducting and raping a minor girl on the pretext of marriage, police said on Sunday.

"On August 28, a 16-year-old girl was abducted by her 24-year-old neighbor and taken to Kerala. The girl was raped on the pretext of marriage, Station House Officer of Bairia police station Sanjay Tripathi said.

On the complaint of the girl's father, a case has been registered against the accused under the India Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act," he added.

India: Kerala Gov Arif Mohammed Khan tests positive for coronavirus

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 7 (PTI): Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Saturday tested positive for COVID-19.

"I have tested positive for COVID-19.

But there is no cause for concern.

However, I request all those who had contact with me in New Delhi last week to test for Covid or be under observation to be on the safe side"Khan tweeted.

The Governor, who was in New Delhi, had returned to the city on Friday morning and had got himself tested on Saturday, Raj Bhavan sources said.

India: Body of 10 yr old girl found in river in UP's Banda

Banda (UP), Nov 7 (PTI) The body of an unidentified girl was found on the banks of Baiga river in the Kamasin area here, police said on Saturday.

The body was spotted by people in Lohra village on Friday. The body appeared to be some days old and its identity could not be ascertained as its head had decomposed, Station House Officer of Kamasin police station Ramashray Singh said.

He said the girl, aged 10 years, was wearing a white frock.

Singh said the body has been kept in a hospital and will be sent for post-mortem.

India: Tantrik, two others held for raping two sisters

Navsari, Nov 7 (PTI) A tantrik and two others were arrested for allegedly raping two sisters, one of them a minor, from Navsari district of south Gujarat, the police said on Saturday.

The police from Gandevi town on November 3 arrested Vishnu Naik and two of his aides based on the FIR lodged by the victims' father last week, an official said.

The victims' father had gotten in touch with the accused, a resident of Nandurbar district of Maharashtra, to resolve some personal problems a couple of months ago, the official said.

India: Gulf Oil Q2 net dips 4.59 pc to Rs 59.13 cr

Mumbai, Nov 7 (PTI) Hinduja group-owned lubes maker Gulf Oil reported a 4.59 per cent decline in net profit at Rs 59.13 crore for the September quarter of this fiscal.

The company had posted a net profit of Rs 61.98 crore in Q2FY20, according to a Gulf Oil release on Saturday.

The net sales declined 2 per cent to Rs 411.74 crore in the September quarter, as compared to Rs 421.28 crore in the July-September period of the previous fiscal.

India: Armed forces must be ready to combat hybrid threats: IAF chief

Pune, Nov 7 (PTI) Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria on Saturday said that today's battle-space is "highly complex and multi-dimensional" with unpredictable security scenarios, and the armed forces have to be prepared for hybrid threats emanating from multiple fronts.

He also hailed the creation of the post of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Department of Military Affairs (DMA) as the beginning of the "most historic phase of higher defence reforms" in the country.

India: Ruckus over farm laws in Haryana Assembly

Chandigarh, Nov 6 (PTI) The Haryana Assembly on Friday witnessed unruly scenes over the Centre's farm laws as soon as Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar brought a resolution thanking the Union government for introducing reforms in the agriculture sector.

Congress MLAs led by Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda insisted on voting on the resolution before a discussion.

Hooda said the new laws were not in the interest of the farming community, which is opposing them.
