India: Manipur bypolls: BJP wins 3 seats, Independent 1

Imphal, Nov 10 (PTI) The BJP won all three Assembly constituencies where the party contested in the by-elections in Manipur, while an Independent candidate backed by the saffron camp secured one seat, the results of which were announced on Tuesday, officials said.

In a closely fought bypoll in Wangoi seat, ruling BJP's candidate Oinam Lukhoi Singh defeated coalition partner National People's Party nominee Khuraijam Loken Singh by 257 votes.

India: Cong alleges foul play in counting for Bihar polls

New Delhi, Nov 10 (PTI) The Congress on Tuesday alleged foul play in the counting for the Bihar assembly polls and accused the ruling NDA of "misusing power".

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, who is camping in Bihar for the past many days, alleged that party candidates in Kishanganj and Sakra had won but were not given victory certificates.

He claimed that the Congress candidate in Kishanganj had won by 1,266 votes and the BJP candidate had gone home.

India: MP bypolls: BJP wins 19 out of 28 seats, Cong bags nine

Bhopal, Nov 11 (PTI) The ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh won 19 out of the 28 assembly constituencies, where bypolls were held on November 3, giving it a comfortable majority in the House and providing stability to its eight-month-old government in the state.

The opposition Congress clinched nine seats.

With this, the BJP now has 126 MLAs in the 230-member House, while the Congress has 96 legislators.

Due to the resignation of one more Congress MLA recently, the effective strength of the House is 229 at present.

India: Will hold tricolour and J-K flag together: Mehbooba

Jammu, Nov 9 (PTI) PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Monday asserted that she will hold the tricolour and the flag of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir together, saying as an MLA she had reaffirmed her faith in the J-K Constitution and the sovereignty and integrity of India as both are inseparable.

The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister had last month said that she was not interested in contesting elections or holding the national flag till the constitutional changes enforced on August 5 last year were rolled back, sparking protests in Jammu.

India: No firecracker ban in MP but avoid Chinese made: Chouhan

Bhopal, Nov 9 (PTI) There is no ban on bursting of firecrackers in Madhya Pradesh during Diwali but those imported from China and crackers with pictures of deities on their packets can not be sold in the state, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Monday.

Chouhan's statement came in the backdrop of some states moving to ban or strictly regulate use of firecrackers this Diwali in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and to curb noise and air pollution.

Delhi-NCR's air quality on brink of 'emergency'

New Delhi, Nov 10 (PTI) Delhi woke up to a grey morning as an apocalyptic smog blotted out the sun from the sky and smudged landmarks from view with air quality inching closer to emergency levels on Tuesday.

Air quality monitoring stations at Mandir Marg, Punjabi Bagh, Pusa, Rohini, Patparganj, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Najafgarh, Sri Aurobindo Marg and Okhla Phase 2 maxed out as air quality indexes hit the 500 mark, Central Pollution Control Board data showed.

India: Senior Republic TV executive held in fake TRP scam

Mumbai, Nov 10 (PTI) Republic TV's distribution head Ghanshyam Singh was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the alleged TRP (Television Rating Point) rigging scam, a Mumbai crime branch official said.

Singh, who is also Assistant Vice President of the Republic Media Network, was picked up from his residence around 7.40 am, the official said.

The latest arrest has taken the number of people held by the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the crime branch in the case to 12.

India: Punjab revokes 'general consent' to CBI

Chandigarh, Nov 10 (PTI) The Congress-led government in Punjab has revoked its general consent to the Central Bureau of Investigation for probing cases in the state, joining several other non-BJP ruled states that have carried out similar moves.

West Bengal, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh are among the states that have already withdrawn their "general consent" to the CBI.
