India: Former NC MLA prevented from boarding flight to Dubai

New Delhi, Nov 13 (PTI) As many as 33 politicians of Jammu and Kashmir have been named in a list that bars them from travelling abroad, as a result of which former National Conference MLA Atlaf Ahmed Wani was prevented from boarding a flight to Dubai, according to official sources on Friday.

They said that the names of former chief ministers Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are not in the list, which has mostly former legislators and former ministers from various political parties.

India: Case against temple priest for refusing rituals for SC family

Hyderabad, Nov 13 (PTI) A case under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered on Friday against a temple priest in Jangaon district of Telangana for allegedly refusing to perform certain rituals for a family which belongs to Scheduled Caste community, police said.

The family wanted to perform certain ritual and the priest allegedly refused on the grounds of caste, they said.

Following a complaint by the family, the case was registered and due process of law was on, they added.

India: 10 killed, 20 injured as van overturns in MP

Shivpuri (MP), Nov 13 (PTI) Ten people, including three women, were killed and 20 injured on Friday when their pick-up van overturned near Pohri in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh, a senior police official said.

The incident took place around 7.15 pm when the group was returning to their village Dodi from Unawad in Sheopur district after attending a religious program, Shivpuri Superintendent of Police Rajesh Singh Chandel told PTI.

The spot where the vehicle overtured is 33 km from here.

India: Modi pays tribute to Nehru on his birth anniversary

New Delhi, Nov 14 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tribute to the country's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary.

Born in 1889, the Congress stalwart remains India's longest serving prime minister.

"My humble tributes to the country's first prime minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary," Modi tweeted.

India: Son of BJP leader commits suicide in UP

Bulandshahr, Nov 14 (PTI) The 30-year-old son of a senior BJP leader here allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself on Saturday morning, police said.

Mahesh, the son of three-time MLA from Jewar Horam Singh, was found dead by his family members after a shot rang out from his room, they said.

When the family members rushed inside, Mahesh's body was found lying on the ground with a gun next to it, they added.

Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and sent the body for postmortem.

Covid-19: Delhi, India’s capital, records its highest deaths, hospitals swamped

India: Actor Asif Basra found hanging dead in Dharamshala

Dharamshala, Nov 12 (PTI) Actor Asif Basra, known for starring in movies such as "Jab We Met", "Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai" and "Kai Po Che!", died on Thursday here, the police said. He was 53.

The actor was found hanging in a private complex here by the police and a team of forensic experts is on the spot, said SSP Kangra Vimukt Ranjan.

The police is investigating the case and further details are awaited, Ranjan added.
