India: Mathura mosque case: Next hearing on December 10

Mathura, Nov 18 (PTI) A district court here on Wednesday fixed December 10 as the next date for hearing into a petition seeking the removal of a mosque near a temple which the devouts believe marks the birthplace of Lord Krishna.

The court pushed the hearing to next month after a "vakalatnama" was filed on behalf of three of the four defendants in the case, District Government Council (Civil) Sanjay Gaur said.

India: Man kills wife over dowry in Maharashtra

Latur, Nov 18 (PTI) A 28-year-old woman was hacked to death allegedly by her husband during an argument over demand for dowry in the wee hours of Wednesday here in Maharashtra, police said.

The accused, Rajkumar Laxaman Gaikwad, a resident of Haibatpur village in Latur district, has been arrested, they said.

He assaulted his wife, Rahu Rajkumar Gaikwad (28), with an axe around 1.30 am, leaving her dead on the spot, the police said.

New Delhi, Nov 18 (PTI) The AAP and the BJP were engaged in a war of words on Wednesday on the issue of Chhath Puja, with the saffron party's Manoj Tiwari calling Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal "namakharam" for banning the rituals at public places.

Coochbehar (WB), Nov 19 (PTI) BJP supporters on Thursday put up roadblocks on the national highway in Tufanganj town of CoochBehar district during the 12-hour bandh called by the saffron party in the sub-division to protest the killing of a local party leader.

The district unit of BJP blamed the TMC for the killing of its local leader Kalachand Karmakar on Wednesday and demanded immediate arrest of the perpetrators.

India: 7-yr-old girl raped in UP's Fatehpur

Fatehpur (UP), Nov 19 (PTI) A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 14-year-old boy in a village in the Bindki police station area here, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place on Wednesday evening, and the boy has been detained, Assistant Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar said.

An FIR in this connection has been lodged and the victim admitted to a government hospital, where her condition is said to be serious, he said.

India: 11 killed, 16 injured in truck crash near Vadodara

Vadodara, Nov 18 (PTI) At least 11 people died and 16 others were injured when a mini-truck in which they were travelling rammed into another truck on the outskirts of Gujarat's Vadodara city early Wednesday morning, police said.

The accident took place at Waghodia circle near the city around 2.45 am when the victims were heading towards Pavagadh in Panchmahal district, Vadodara Deputy Commissioner of Police Karanraj Vaghela said.

India: SC allows UP govt to fill up 69,000 posts for teachers as per results declared in May

New Delhi, Nov 18 ( PTI) The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the Uttar Pradesh government to fill up vacancies of 69,000 assistant basic teachers in the state as per results declared by it in May.

A bench headed by Justice U U Lalit dismissed a batch of petitions including the one filed by the "Uttar Pradesh Prathmik Shiksha Mitra Association' challenging the Allahabad High Court's decision to uphold the cut off marks for selection of assistant basic teachers in the states.

India: Purchase order to ease paucity of medicines at LLR

Kanpur:  Paucity of medicines at Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital will soon come to an end as a big order worth crore has been placed.

Giving this information, the GSVM principal Dr BR Kamal disclosed as many as 119 types of medicines like antibiotics injection, pain killer tablets, etc have been ordered. 

He added advance has also been initiated. A total amount of Rs 1.30 crore would be spent on the purchase of the medicines.

It was being expected that the consignment would reach between 15 and 20 days.
