India: As corona cases are on rise, safety vital again

Kanpur: The cases are rising so the checking is also on the increase. The fear of Covid-19 still hovers upon us.

Masks are importantly needed in such a harsh situation. There is no respite from it. On receiving a call on the mobile set one middle-aged person started covering his mouth and nose with a mask.

He also added that checking in residential areas has also started. So it is better to use one cover to escape from both the disease and the penalty.

India: Harley-Davidson working with partner Hero for customers in India

New Delhi, Nov 21 (PTI) American cult-bike maker Harley-Davidson on Saturday said it is working with its new partner Hero MotoCorp to "ensure a smooth transition" for its customers in India, including after-sale services and warranty.

Last month, Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp announced their partnership for the Indian market.

India: Delhi's Lady Sri Ram College to reduce fee after student commits suicide

New Delhi, Nov 21 (PTI) Following the suicide of a student allegedly over financial constraints, the Lady Sri Ram College has announced reduction in fee for a few courses, setting up a committee to provide laptops and allowed some second-year students to reside in hostels.

"Given the fact that students are not able to avail certain facilities of the college due to being off-campus, the college has removed such charges from the fees this year. This has led to a substantial reduction in the fee. In addition, it is possible to pay the fee in installments.

India: DMK slams BJP's "Hindi dominance sentiments"

Chennai, Nov 20 (PTI) DMK President M K Stalin on Friday lashed out at what he called the Centre's "Hindi dominance sentiment" after two MPs from Tamil Nadu said they received official communications from Union Ministers in that language.

On his Twitter handle, Stalin tagged the posts of his party's Rajya Sabha member P Wilson and that of CPI (M) Lok Sabha member Su Venkatesan, where they said they received replies from Home Minister Amit Shah and his colleague Nityanand Rai, respectively, in Hindi on different issues.

India: Sonia Gandhi goes to Goa on medical advice

New Delhi, Nov 20 (PTI) Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday flew to Goa for a few days after doctors advised her to get away from the heavy pollution in the national capital in view of her chronic chest infection, party insiders said.

Accompanied by her son Rahul Gandhi, the Congress chief, who left the city this afternoon, will be in Goa till the air quality improves, they said.

Hong Kong bans Air India flights for 5th time over COVID cases

New Delhi, Nov 20 (PTI) Hong Kong has banned Air India flights from Delhi till December 3 after a few passengers on its flight tested positive for the novel coronavirus post-arrival earlier this week, an official said on Friday.

This is the fifth time Air India's flights from India have been banned by the Hong Kong government for bringing passengers who tested positive for the pathogen after arrival.

India: Spurious liquor kills at least 5 in UP's Allahabad

Allahabad, Nov 20 (PTI) At least five people died and several others were hospitalised after allegedly drinking spurious liquor in a village here on Friday, police said.

The incident took place in Amliya village under Gangapar Phulpur Police Station in the district, according to police.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Sarvashreshtha Tripathi, told PTI that five people have died while others were admitted to Swarooprani Nehru Hospital as a precautionary measure.

India: Soldier killed in Pak firing along LoC in J-K's Rajouri

Jammu, Nov 21 (PTI) A soldier of the Indian Army was killed on Saturday as Pakistani forces opened fire on forward posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

The unprovoked firing from across the border in Lam area of Nowshera sector took place around 1 am, resulting in critical injuries to a havaldar, who died later, the officials said.

The Indian Army retaliated strongly to silence the Pakistani guns, and cross-border firing between the two sides continued for quite some time, they added.

India: Petrol, diesel price hiked for second day in a row

New Delhi, Nov 21 (PTI) Petrol price on Saturday was hiked by 15 paise per litre and diesel by 20 paise, the second straight day of increase in rates after firming international oil rates broke nearly a two-month-long hiatus in price revision.

The price of petrol in Delhi was hiked to Rs 81.38 per litre from Rs 81.23, according to a notification from oil marketing companies.

Diesel rates went up from Rs 70.68 to Rs 70.88 per litre.

On Friday, petrol price was raised by 17 paise per litre and diesel by 22 paise.

India: Cow slaughter ban will be a reality in Karnataka soon: BJP leader

Bengaluru, Nov 20 (PTI) Cow slaughter ban would be a reality in Karnataka in the near future, the BJP national general secretary C T Ravi said on Friday.

The former Karnataka Minister, who is in-charge of party affairs in Maharashtra, Goa and poll-bound Tamil Nadu, said a law banning cow slaughter would be passed in the upcoming Assembly session.
