Israel continues to detain Palestinian MPs on International Day of Parliamentarism

01 July 2021; MEMO: The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, yesterday condemned the ongoing Israeli detention of Palestinian MPs on the UN's annual International Day of Parliamentarism, 30 June.

Hamas spokesman Abdul Latif Al-Qanou pointed out that the Israeli occupation authorities have arrested more than 50 Palestinian MPs since 2006, when the movement won free and fair elections in the occupied territories.

Criticism of Palestinian security forces raises pressure on Abbas

RAMALLAH, West Bank, June 30 (Reuters) - Pressure is mounting on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas over his security forces' handling of protesters demanding his resignation since one of his biggest critics died in custody.

The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem said on Tuesday it was "deeply disturbed" by reports that protesters had been intimidated and beaten by plain-clothes officers, and the United Nations condemned what it called "totally unacceptable" attacks.

The security forces have denied deploying officers in civilian clothing against protesters.

Hamas: 'What we took by force will not be given up in talks'

30 June 2021; MEMO: Chief of Hamas' Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh has stressed that what the Palestinian resistance has taken from Israel by force will not be given it up during the "Gaza reconstruction talks".

"What we took by force will not give up during the Gaza reconstruction talks," he told a popular gathering of Palestinian refugees and representatives of Palestinian factions in Lebanon.

Israel razes 2 Palestinian structures in East Jerusalem

29 June 2021; MEMO: Israeli forces on Tuesday demolished a shop and an apartment in the Silwan neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem, according to local residents, Anadolu Agency reported.

Israeli authorities cited lack of building permits for razing the two structures in al-Bustan and Al-Suwayeh quarters in the neighborhood, the residents said.

29 June 2021; MEMO: A number of Palestinians have been wounded as Israeli occupation forces started to demolish homes and shops on Tuesday morning, Safa news agency has reported. The demolition of the Palestinian-owned properties is taking place in Al Bustan, part of the Silwan neighbourhood in occupied Jerusalem.

Israel forces begin demolition of Jerusalem's Silwan neighbourhood

29 June 2021; MEMO: Israeli occupation forces this morning raided the Silwan neighbourhood in occupied East Jerusalem, amid plans to demolish Palestinian homes in the area.

According to local residents, Israeli forces fired tear gas canisters and rubber-coated steel bullets at the Palestinians who had gathered to stop the demolitions in the Al-Bustan neighbourhood. Mosques called on residents to gather to protect their homes, eyewitnesses said.
