Egypt sentences Muslim Brotherhood leader to life in prison

18 April 2022; MEMO: Egypt yesterday sentenced the Deputy General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mahmoud Ezzat, to life in prison in a case known in the media as "storming Egypt's eastern border."

Since his arrest in 2020, Ezzat has been handed sentences of a total of 75 years in prison in different cases.

India: BJP was behind the Jahangirpuri violence: AAP

New Delhi, Apr 17 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday alleged that the BJP was behind the violence during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri.

The party's reaction came after Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta alleged that the violence was the result of the AAP government aiding illegal stay of Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants.

The BJP leader also alleged that one of the arrested accused in the violence was an AAP activist.

India: SC cancells Allahabad HC bail order to Ashish Mishra in farmers' killing case

New Delhi, Apr 18 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Monday cancelled the bail granted by the Allahabad High Court to Ashish Mishra, son of Union minister Ajay Mishra, in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.

A special bench of Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli also asked the accused to surrender in a week's time.

Erdogan condemns Israeli assault on worshippers in Al Aqsa Mosque

18 April 2022; MEMO: Turkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned on Sunday Israeli assault on worshippersin Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem's Old City.

On his twitter, he stated that he had told his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas that he condemned Israel's storming of the mosque and threats to its status.

16 Palestinian journalists detained by Israel

17 April 2022; MEMO: Sixteen Palestinian journalists are languishing in Israeli prisons, according to an Arab human rights group on Sunday, Anadolu reports.

In a statement, the Beirut-based Journalists' Support Committee said eight journalists have already been slapped with jail terms by Israeli authorities.

"Four journalists are held under Israel's policy of administrative detention, while four others are held under interrogation," the statement said.

Iran condemns desecration of Holy Book in Sweden

16 April 2022; Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Sunday that Iran condemns desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden and expects immediate reaction from the Swedish government.

The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns burning a copy of the Holy Quran in Linköping, Sweden, by a Danish racist, extremist element which was done under the protection of the Swedish police under the pretext of freedom of speech, Khatibzadeh said in a statement.

India: Apocalypse of hatred, bigotry, intolerance, untruth engulfing country; Sonia Gandhi

New Delhi, Apr 16 (PTI) Hatred, bigotry and intolerance were "engulfing" the country and if not stopped these would damage the society beyond repair, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has alleged.

In a newspaper article, she called upon people not to allow this to go on and urged them to stop "this raging fire and tsunami of hate" that will "raze all that has been so painstakingly built by past generations".

OIC condemns Israel's attack on Al-Aqsa worshippers

16 April 2022; MEMO: Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha on Friday strongly condemned the Israeli occupation forces' attack on Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem's Old City.

In a statement, the OIC announced: "At least 152 worshippers were injured in the Israeli aggression, and hundreds were arrested."

Ohio USG passes resolution calling on university to divest from two companies with Israel business ties

15 April 2022; MEMO: The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) at Ohio State University has passed an emergency resolution calling on the University to divest from two companies that contribute to human rights violations against the Palestinian people by providing technology and tools to the Israeli military.

The USG passed the resolution on 7 April, with a majority of 14 votes in favour of the resolution, 8 votes against, and 2 abstentions.
