Malaysia Does Not Support Elections In Myanmar Promised By Junta Next Year

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia does not support the elections to be held in Myanmar next year as promised by the country’s military junta, said Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.

He said this was because the military junta amended some election rules that were seen as biased and not approved by other stakeholders.

Malaysia is committed to ensuring that Myanmar returns as a democratic country, to be more stable in the future.

Israel forces arrest 2 Palestinians in occupied West Bank raid

13 Nov 2022; MEMO: Two Palestinians were detained in an Israeli raid in the occupied West Bank city on Saturday, according to a local NGO, reports Anadolu Agency.

Montaser Sammour, head of the Palestinian Prisoner Society in Jenin city, said Israeli forces raided the town of Qabatia, south of Jenin, and took the two into custody.

The state news agency Wafa said dozens of Palestinians suffered gas inhalation in clashes with Israeli forces in the town during which Israeli soldiers used tear gas canisters.

UN agrees to ask ICJ opinion on Israel's West Bank occupation

12 Nov 2022; MEMO: The United Nations (UN) voted on Friday in favour of getting a legal opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian West Bank.

Nicaragua submitted the motion on behalf of the Palestinian Authority (PA), which does not have full UN membership.

Israel: Shin Bet admits spying on journalists through mobile phones

12 Nov 2022; MEMO: The Israeli General Security Service Shin Bet admitted that it spied on journalists through a database collected from mobile phone companies. It also used this database in investigations into criminal incidents, not only in security investigations. This came in the Public Prosecution's response to a petition submitted by the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) to the High Court.

Unidentified drone strike targets Iran fuel convoy in Syria

9 Nov 2022; MEMO: At least two fuel trucks were destroyed in an air strike by an unidentified drone on the Syrian side of the border with Iraq late on Tuesday, Iraqi security and border officials told Reuters.

The strike was carried out by a drone and targeted a tanker truck convoy carrying Iranian fuel that had entered Qaim border crossing into Syria, the officials said, Reuters reports.

"No Iraqi casualties have been reported," said an Iraqi border police officer.

Palestine: Arafat death has had no real investigation; former PA minister

10 Nov 2022; MEMO: A former Palestinian Authority Health Minister has claimed that there has been no real investigation into the 2004 death of late PA President Yasser Arafat. Jawad Al-Tibi made his comments in an interview with Al-Resalah following reports that fourteen cubic metres of concrete were poured into Arafat's tomb in Ramallah.

He was the last Health Minister in the Arafat era and headed the first committee formed to investigate Arafat's death.

Freedom Flotilla Coalition begins preparations to break the blockade of Gaza

08 Nov 2022; MEMO: The International Freedom Flotilla Coalition held meetings this weekend to discuss its plan to resume efforts to break the siege on Gaza in 2023.

Organisers said that the meeting was sponsored by the Palestinian Forum in Britain and was attended by representatives of the international coalition in Sweden, Norway, France, Spain, Italy, New Zealand, Malaysia, Turkiye, Canada, the United States and South Africa, in addition to the International Committee to Break the Siege on Gaza.

Tunisia Ennahda stands with Qatar against 'racist defamation campaigns'

08 Nov 2022; MEMO: Tunisian Ennahda Movement expressed its solidarity with Qatar which has been facing "racist defamation campaigns" as its preparing to kickstart World Cup 2022.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, Ennahda said: "Brotherly state of Qatar has been subject to a racist defamation campaign as it is preparing to kickstart the World Cup 2022, football tournament."
