UN hearings probing alleged Israeli rights abuses open in Geneva

08 Nov 2022; MEMO: A series of public hearings with victims of alleged Israeli human rights violations opened at the United Nations in Geneva on Monday, with Israel dismissing them as "sham trials", Reuters reports.

The independent Commission of Inquiry established by the UN top Human Rights body last year, plans five days of hearings which it says will be impartial and examine the allegations of both Israelis and Palestinian authorities.

Pakistan Supreme Court directs police to register FIR of attack on Imran Khan within 24 hours

Islamabad, Nov 7 (PTI) Pakistan's Supreme Court on Monday ordered the Inspector General of the Punjab province to register a case on the gun attack on Imran Khan within 24 hours, a directive hailed by the former prime minister's party as a “first step towards justice”.

On Sunday, Khan said that an FIR has not been registered on the botched "assassination attempt" on his life as authorities are refusing to file the case unless he removes an Army general's name from the complaint.

Israel seeks to undermine new anti-occupation Palestinian move at UN

07 Nov 2022; MEMO: With the assistance of the US, Israel is planning to undermine a new Palestinian move at the UN calling for urgent opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICC) on the legality of the Israeli occupation.

Ynet News reported yesterday that the Special Politics and Decolonisation Committee is expected to discuss the matter on Wednesday.

Jordan: Massive march in support of Palestine resistance

05 Nov 2022; MEMO: Thousands of Jordanians on Friday attended a massive march organised by the Islamic movement in Amman to show support for Palestinian resistance in the occupied West Bank, Quds Press reported.

The march marked the 105th anniversary of the British Balfour Declaration, which promised to establish a Jewish state on the land of Palestine.

Marchers condemned the Balfour Declaration and deplored Arab and international indifference towards the Palestinian cause, Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Israel settlers terrorise Palestinians, attack homes, vehicles in occupied West Bank

04 Nov 2022; MEMO: Extremist Israeli Jewish settlers assaulted Palestinian people and their property last night in the occupied West Bank city of Al-Bireh, reported Wafa news agency.

According to local witnesses, armed Israeli settlers vandalised dozens of Palestinian cars and abused Palestinian commuters and drivers, after hurling stones and rocks towards their car windows.

Israel jets fire several airstrikes against Gaza Strip

04 Nov 2022; MEMO: Israeli aircraft have fired several airstrikes against the Gaza Strip this morning, resulting in a power outage in some areas.

According to an Israeli army spokesman, the bombs came in response to the launching of rockets against Israel from Hamas.

However, there has been no immediate claim of responsibility.

The Israeli military claimed that four rockets were fired from Gaza, three of which did not reach Israeli territory, while one rocket was intercepted by air defence systems.

15 Nobel Prize laureates call on Egypt to release political prisoners

03 Nov 2022; MEMO: Nobel laureates have called upon the government in Egypt to release prisoners of conscience in advance of the COP27 climate change summit in Sharm El Sheikh. The laureates mentioned specifically a British-Egyptian prisoner on hunger strike, Alaa Abdel Fattah, saying that he may die in his cell.

Egypt political prisoner dies after hunger strike in prison

02 Nov 2022; MEMO: A 47-year-old man has died in prison in Egypt after starting a hunger strike to protest the conditions of his detention, according to the Egyptian Network for Human Rights.

Alaa Al-Salami's family were only informed that he had died three days after he passed away.

Al-Salami was sentenced to life imprisonment on 30 April 2019 by the Cairo Criminal Court and detained first in the maximum-security Scorpion Prison and then transferred to Badr 3 Prison.

Arab League Summit affirms centrality of Palestinian cause

03 Nov 2022; MEMO: The concluding statement of the 31st Arab League Summit in Algiers has affirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause as well as unequivocal support for the Palestinians' inalienable rights to freedom, self-determination and the establishment of an independent state on the 4 June, 1967 nominal borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The summit also backed the legitimate right of return and compensation for Palestinian refugees in accordance with UN General Assembly Resolution 194 passed in 1948.
