India: Priyanka slams UP govt over banners in Lucknow to name and shame activists

New Delhi, Mar 8 (PTI) Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday slammed the BJP government in UP over banners with photographs of people who have been asked to pay for damage to public property during anti-CAA protests, saying the ruling dispensation has started to consider itself above the Constitution.

India: Buses, metro to be disinfected on regular basis: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Mar 8 (PTI) The Delhi government has ordered DTC and cluster buses, metro and hospitals to be disinfected on a regular basis as a precautionary measure to deal with the novel coronavirus, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal said 168 isolation beds had been set up at 25 hospitals for coronavirus patients. He appealed to the people in Delhi if anybody from their neighbourhood had returned from foreign in the past 14 days, they should inform the government.

India: Man held for raping, assaulting minor girl in Maha

Palghar, Mar 7 (PTI) A man has been booked for allegedly raping a minor girl repeatedly and then assaulting her for refusing his marriage proposal, Palghar police in Maharashtra said on Saturday.

The man, identified as Mahendra, was in a relationship with the 17-year-old girl and had raped her several times over the past six months, said a Vasai police official.

India: AAP to start 3-month drive to strengthen base in Goa

Panaji, Mar 7 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party, fresh from a resounding victory in the Delhi Assembly polls, will embark on a three-month drive to strengthen its base in Goa, party MLA Atishi said on Saturday.

'Mission Nirman' will begin after the Zilla Parishad polls on March 22 and a 25-member committee headed by Goa AAP leader Valmiki Naik will oversee the programme, she told reporters here.

India: Teen girl raped by tantrik, associate in Gujarat's Patan

Patan, Mar 7 (PTI) A minor girl was raped allegedly by a tantrik and his associate while she was being "treated" on the request of her kin, police in Patan in Gujarat said on Saturday.

The rape took place in the accused's ashram on Friday night in Sardapura village in Radhanpura taluka, an official said.

India: 690 cases registered, nearly 2,200 held for Delhi riots

New Delhi, Mar 7 (PTI) Delhi police said on Saturday they have registered 690 cases and held nearly 2,200 people in connection with last month's communal riots in northeast Delhi which claimed 53 lives and injured over 200.

Of the total cases registered, 48 were related to Arms Act, police said in a statement.

They said 2,193 people have been either detained or arrested in connection with the riots. Of them, 50 have been arrested on charges under the Arms Act.

India: Bodies of woman, two young daughters found in well in UP

Sonebhadra (UP), Mar 8 (PTI) The bodies of a woman and her two young daughters were found in a well in Banauli village here, police said on Sunday.

The bodies of Meera (30) and her daughters, Ranjana (5) and Sanjana (1.5 years), were found in a well near her house on Saturday night, they said.

Meera's husband Rajesh Bharti, who is an auto driver, told the police that when he returned home he could not find the three and when he started looking for them, he found their bodies in the well

The police is probing the matter.

India: BJP, Cong slam each other over Yes Bank crisis

New Delhi, Mar 8 (PTI) A war of words broke out between the BJP and Congress on Sunday over the Yes Bank crisis with the ruling party seeking to link it with the Gandhi family, while the opposition wondered if the prime minister and finance minister were "complicit" as the bank's loan book grew manifold.

New Delhi, Mar 8 (PTI) The CBI has begun a probe into the Yes Bank affairs as officials started collecting documents in the matter, sources said on Sunday.

According to them, the officials have refused to offer comments on the development as the probe agency wants complete secrecy before any search that it might be planning.
