India: SBI cuts MCLR by up to 15 bps across tenors

Mumbai, Mar 11 (PTI) The country's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) on Wednesday said it has reduced its marginal cost of fund-based lending rate (MCLR) by up to 15 basis points across various tenors, effective March 10.

The bank has reduced its one-year MCLR by 10 basis points to 7.75 per cent from 7.85 per cent earlier, the SBI said.

India: Over 600 challans issued for drunken driving on Holi in Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 11 (PTI) Over 600 challans were issued for drunken driving in the national capital on Holi, the Delhi Police said on Wednesday.

A total of 647 challans were issued for drunken driving, 181 for triple riding, 1,192 for not wearing helmets and 156 for dangerous driving on Tuesday, they said.

Agartala, Mar 11 (PTI) Alleging that the violence in Delhi was a "pre-planned conspiracy", former Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar started a drive to raise funds for those affected by the clashes.

Urging people to help the riot survivors, Sarkar raised questions on the role of the administration to tackle the violence that killed at least 53 people.

India: Minor girl raped by two men in Rajasthan's Banswara

Jaipur, Mar 11 (PTI) A minor girl was allegedly raped by two men in a village in Banswara district of Rajasthan, police said.

The incident occurred around 2 am on Tuesday in Lunawada village of the district where the accused took the girl from her house to a nearby farmland where the duo allegedly took turns to rape her, Kushalgarh Deputy Superintendent of Police Sandeep Shaktawat said.

The 14-year-old victim underwent medical examination and the accused are absconding with police looking out for them, he added.

India: Kerala govt puts 45 Italy returnees under observation

Kochi, Mar 11 (PTI) Stepping up efforts to check the spread of coronavirus in Kerala, the state government has sent at least 45 people who returned here from COVID-19 hit Italy to various health facilities, official sources said on Wednesday.

While 35 people including two children and two pregnant womenhave been shifted to a Government district hospital in Aluva, 10 suffering from fever and breathing problems have been admitted to the Kalamassery Medical College Hospital, they said.

India: Man sentenced to seven years RI for rape in Maha

Thane, Mar 11 (PTI) A district court here sentenced a 32-year-old man to seven years' rigorous imprisonment for repeatedly raping a woman in Vikramgad taluka of Maharashtra's Palghar district.

In an order issued on February 6, district judge Rajesh S Gupta convicted Nitin Mere of offences registered under sections 376 (rape) and 417 (cheating) and sentenced him to seven years of rigorous imprisonment.

India: 95 Cong MLAs reach Bhopal airport, to leave for Jaipur

Bhopal, Mar 11 (PTI) Amid the political crisis in Madhya Pradesh, 95 Congress MLAs reached the Bhopal airport to leave for Jaipur on Wednesday after the ruling party decided to shift its MLAs out of the state in a bid to keep its flock together.

The ruling party MLAs, who reached the Raja Bhoj Airport here in three buses around 12 noon, expressed confidence that the Kamal Nath-led state government will be able prove its majority.

New Delhi, Mar 10 (PTI) Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury on Tuesday said ideology did not matter to Jyotiraditya Scindia, and claimed that "political convenience" and "personal ambition" played a major part his decision to quit the party.

Chowdhury alleged that some sort of "allurement and enticement" offered by the Bharatiya Janata Party had convinced Scindia for switching over from the Congress.

India: Chidambaram cross-examined, refutes allegations of cash distribution in 2009 LS election

Chennai, Mar 9 (PTI) Former finance minister P Chidambaram on Monday refuted allegations about cash distribution in a case pertaining to his election from Sivaganga Lok Sabha constituency in 2009.

Chidambaram, Rajya Sabha MP, replied that distribution of money "are imaginary and there is no evidence at all."
