Iran Air plane carrying Indians lands in Mumbai

Mumbai, Mar 13 (PTI) An Iran Air flight carrying Indians stranded in coronavirus-hit Iran, landed at the airport here on Friday afternoon, according to an official.

Iran is one of the worst-affected countries by the coronavirus outbreak and the government has been working on plans to bring back Indians stranded there.

India: PSA against Farooq Abdullah revoked

Srinagar, Mar 13 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday revoked the Public Safety Act against former chief minister Farooq Abdullah, officials said.

In an order, state Home Secretary Shaleen Kabra said the PSA invoked on Abdullah on September 17 and further extended on December 13, has been revoked.

The order comes into force with immediate effect.

India: No proposal to ban buffalo meat, fish exports: Govt

New Delhi, March 13 (PTI) The government on Friday said in Rajya Sabha that there is no proposal to ban the export of buffalo meat or fish.

During Question Hour, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, said, "There is no proposal to ban the export of buffalo meat or any meat or fish."

India: Resolution against NPR moved in Delhi Assembly

New Delhi, Mar 13 (PTI) Environment minister Gopal Rai on Friday moved a resolution in the Delhi Assembly against implementation of the National Population Register in the national capital and said if executed, it should be applied using the procedure of 2010.

Rai said the National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens(NRC) are not only meant for a "particular religion" but will also impact the majority population.

Delhi govt declares coronavirus an epidemic; shuts cinema halls, schools and colleges

New Delhi, Mar 12 (PTI) The Delhi government on Thursday declared coronavirus an epidemic and shut all cinema halls, schools and colleges, except those where exams are on, till March 31.

The government also made it compulsory to disinfect all public places, including government and private offices and shopping malls, every day in the national capital.

India: Weather takes terrible turn on Friday afternoon

KANPUR: Of course, nothing definite can be predicted about the weather.  Today's weather took a strange turn as there was scant showers in the afternoon. At about 2:30 p.m. the clouds have pervaded all over giving impression of rains. 

Though there has been registered increase in the daily temperature, sudden convergence of the clouds surprises the residents in Jajmau area here. 

The dark clouds are supposed to be getting ready to rain fiercely but only sometimes  mild,  sometimes strong vibrating thunder of clouds travel. 

Indian Rupee sinks below 74/USD

Mumbai, Mar 12 (PTI) The Indian rupee plunged 82 paise to 74.50 against US dollar in opening trade on Thursday after the World Health Organization declared the new coronavirus (COVID-19) a pandemic.

Forex traders said market participants turned jittery amid mounting fears of a coronavirus-led economic slowdown.

India: Delhi riots: ED books Tahir Hussain, PFI on money laundering charges

New Delhi, Mar 11 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate has booked suspended Aam Aadmi Party councillor Tahir Hussain, Islamist group PFI and some others on the charges of money laundering and alleged funding of last month's communal riots in northeast Delhi, officials said on Wednesday.

They said the central probe agency has filed a criminal case against Hussain, facing charges of killing an Intelligence Bureau official during the riots, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

India: Suspension of 7 Cong members in LS revoked

New Delhi, Mar 11 (PTI) Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed a motion to revoke the suspension of seven Congress members with immediate effect.

The seven Congress members-- Gaurav Gogoi, T N Prathapan, Dean Kuriakose, R Unnithan, Manickam Tagore, Benny Behanan and Gurjeet Singh Aujla were suspended on March 5 for the remaining period of the Budget session for gross misconduct.

India: Annual Paithan pilgrimage suspended

Aurangabad, Mar 11 (PTI) The Aurangabad district administration has suspended the annual 'Nath Shashti Yatra' in Paithan town this year in view of the coronavirus scare.

Paithan in Maharashtra was the home town of noted Marathi saint Eknath. Every year, people flock his shrine during the time of the Paithan Yatra, also commonly known as the Nath Shashti Yatra.
