Virus cases surge in US, India, but slow in China, Korea

NEW DELHI (AP) — The world saw the largest daily increases yet in coronavirus cases, with infections soaring in India’s rural villages after migrant workers fled major cities.

India’s coronavirus caseload climbed by nearly 15,000 as of Monday to 425,282, with more than 13,000 deaths, the health ministry reported.

India: ONGC looking at optimising capex after COVID-19 impacts project execution

New Delhi, Jun 21 (PTI) State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has warned that the COVID-19 pandemic will impact the speed of execution of its projects and the company is identifying opportunities for optimisation of capital and operating expenditure.

While about 9 per cent of the company's natural gas output was impacted by inability of customers to take supplies due to the coronavirus lockdown, lower oil and gas prices had impacted its revenues, the company said.

India: Tea exports dip by 5.6 per cent

Kolkata, June 21 (PTI) Tea exports have dipped marginally in the last fiscal to 240 million kg from 254.50 million kg the year before -- a fall of 5.6 per cent -- according to data.

Exports to CIS countries -- the biggest importer of India tea -- also declined marginally to 59.40m kg in the last fiscal from 60.72 mkg in 2018-19, the Tea Board data said.

Sources in the Tea Board attributed the dip to economic slowdown across the globe.

China likely lost at least 40 soldiers in border clash: Indian minister

MUMBAI (Reuters) - China lost at least 40 soldiers in a clash with India at their disputed border this week, a federal government minister has said, as the nuclear-armed countries remained locked in confrontation on the frontline on Sunday.

China has not said anything about any losses in the hand-to-hand combat that took place in the heavily contested Galwan Valley in the western Himalayas, in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed and at least 76 injured.

Delhi minister's office staff dies of coronavirus

New Delhi, June 20 (PTI) A stenographer in Delhi cabinet minister Rajendra Pal Gautam's office died due to coronavirus, an official said on Saturday.

Ashok Kumar (48), a resident of Ashok Vihar breathed his last at Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital on Friday afternoon, the official said.

Kumar had a fever and was put on a ventilator two days ago.

His younger brother had died of the deadly infection on June 7, the official said.

Kumar's wife and son have also tested positive for coronavirus.

India: Kanwar yatra suspended in view of COVID-19

Lucknow, Jun 20 (PTI) Kanwar yatra during the auspicious month of 'Shravan' will remain suspended this year in view of the coronavirus pandemic, according to an official release issued on Saturday.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a video conference with his counterparts of Haryana and Uttarakhand, M L Khattar and Trivendra Singh Rawat , respectively, and discussed the issue of annual Kanwar yatra in Shravan, an official release issued here said.

Delhi govt issues revised order on home isolation

New Delhi, Jun 21 (PTI) The Delhi government has issued a revised order stating that the novel coronavirus patients who do not have comorbidities or require hospitalisation could opt for home isolation following withdrawal of the decision on five-day mandatory institutional quarantine.

"All individuals who are positive will be referred to the COVID care centres for assessment of clinical conditions, severity of illness and presence of co-morbidities," it said in an order on Saturday.

India gives Hetero Labs approval to make Gilead's COVID-19 drug

(Reuters) - India’s drug regulator has given Hetero Labs the green light to manufacture and market its generic version of Gilead Science’s experimental COVID-19 treatment remdesivir, the Indian pharmaceutical company said on Sunday.

The drug, which will be marketed under the brand name Covifor, will likely be priced at 5,000 to 6,000 rupees ($66-$79) for a 100 milligram dose, Hetero said.

India: Monkey gets life imprisonment behind zoo

KANPUR: The monkey animal spirit is a powerful symbol of good luck. Perhaps this may have been the reason to train the monkey by an astrologer who nurtured it with a regular taste of liquor. Though he had tutored the one particular monkey for earning his livelihood, the simian started biting the common people that led its incarceration in Kanpur Zoo here.

As the monkey became fond of alcohol, it remains deprived of the drink and developed aggressive behaviour following the sudden death of the occultist.
