China claims valley where Indian, Chinese soldiers brawled

NEW DELHI (AP) — China said the Galwan Valley high up in Himalayan border region where Chinese and Indian troops engaged in a deadly brawl this week falls entirely within China, boldly laying claim to the disputed area as the Asian giants continued using military and diplomatic channels to reduce tensions.

The confrontation in the Galwan Valley, part of the disputed Ladakh region along the Himalayan frontier, was the deadliest in 45 years.

India: Condition of COVID-infected Delhi Health Minister deteriorates, being shifted to ICU

New Delhi, Jun 19 (PTI) Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain, who is in hospital for COVID-19 treatment, has been diagnosed with pneumonia and is being shifted to an ICU as his condition has deteriorated, a senior official said on Friday.

According to doctors treating him, the 55-year-old minister has now been kept full-time on oxygen support as his oxygen saturation level (Spo2) has dipped.

Indo-China border standoff: Plan to start construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya suspended

Ayodhya, Jun 19 (PTI) Amid the Indo-China border standoff, the Ram Mandir trust has put on hold its plan to begin the construction of the temple in Ayodhya.

In an official communique, the trust said that the situation at the India-China border is serious and defending the country is most important.

The decision comes days after a violent face-off between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in Ladakh left 20 Indian Army personnel dead.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh said the party has a government in Delhi and in Punjab, it is the main opposition party, but still the BJP does not want its opinion.

Hyderabad, Jun 18 (PTI) The Telangana High Court has asked why majority of the victims of alleged police excesses during the lockdown were from a particular community, even as it observed that the counter affidavit filed by police in one of the pleas on their high-handedness lacked all relevant details.

A bench, comprising Chief Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice B Vijaysen Reddy,asked in its observations whether a minority community was targeted.

Delhi govt caps rate of COVID-19 test at Rs 2,400

New Delhi, Jun 18 (PTI) The Delhi government has decided to cap the rate of COVID-19 RT-PCR test at Rs 2,400 with the city witnessing an alarming spurt in coronavirus cases.

In its meeting chaired by Lt Governor Anil Baijal, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) approved the recommendations of a high-level expert committee for fixing the COVID-19 testing rate at Rs 2,400 for all facilities including private and government.

India should not depend on China now: Gadkari

New Delhi, Jun 18 (PTI) Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday said India should no longer depend on China and instead focus on research and innovation to ramp up domestic manufacturing.

The minister also said the government is working on formulating a new policy for import substitution.

The remarks come in the wake of border clashes between the two nations in Ladakh.

India: UP caps virus test rate at Rs 2,500

Lucknow, Jun 18 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday capped the rate of a coronavirus test by private laboratories at Rs 2,500.

"A maximum Rs 2,500 has been fixed as a charge for a single-step test for coronavirus by private labs," an official statement issued here said.

"For quality audit, private labs will have to provide samples, whenever demanded for referral labs of medical colleges," it said.

"Charging above Rs 2,500 will be considered a violation of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897," it added.
