Indian PM has surrendered Indian territory to Chinese aggression: Rahul

New Delhi, Jun 20 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remark that neither is anyone inside India's territory nor has any of its posts been captured, alleging that the PM has "surrendered" Indian territory to Chinese aggression.

In a statement on the all-party meeting called by Modi on Friday to discuss the situation at the India-China border, the government said, "At the outset, prime minister clarified that neither is anyone inside our territory nor is any of our post captured."

India: 4 get 20 years RI for raping 16-year-old girl

Kochi, June 19 (PTI): A court here on Friday awarded 20 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to four men for raping a girl near here nearly two years ago.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge P J Vincent sentenced them to 20 years each and also pay a fine of Rs 25,000.

The 16-year-old victim had committed suicide in September 2019 during the trial.

She had given a statement in the court in May that year.

India: Tihar Jail official tests COVID-19 positive

New Delhi, Jun 19 (PTI) The superintendent of Tihar Central Jail number 4 has tested positive for coronavirus, officials said on Friday.

He complained of fever on June 4 and has been on leave since then.

He got tested for the virus on June 11 and the report came positive two days later, a senior jail official said.

"He is fine now, but will continue to remain in home quarantine till June 27, Director General (Prisons) Sandeep Goel said.

India: Shiv Sena has not changed its ideology: Uddhav

Mumbai, Jun 19 (PTI) The Shiv Sena has not changed its ideology, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Friday as he addressed party leaders and office-bearers on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of its formation.

The Sena last year severed ties with erstwhile ally BJP after the two parties fell out over sharing of the chief ministerial post for two-and-half years on a rotational basis.

India: Centre must respond to China's Galwan Valley claim: Sena

Mumbai, Jun 20 (PTI) Shiv Sena deputy leader Priyanka Chaturvedi on Saturday said the Centre must respond to China's claim that the sovereignty over the Galwan Valley area in Ladakh belonged to it.

Twenty Indian Army personnel, including a colonel, were killed in the clashes with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh on Monday night. It was the biggest military confrontation between India and China in over five decades.

India: Determined to deliver, geared up for any contingency: IAF chief

Hyderabad, June 20 (PTI) The Air Force is determined to deliver and is well prepared and suitably deployed to respond to any contingency, IAF chief, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria said here on Saturday.

India COVID-19 Death Toll Rises To 12,948 As Total Cases Reach 395,048

NEW DELHI, June 20 (NNN-UNI) – India’s federal health ministry said this morning that, 375 new deaths, due to COVID-19, besides fresh 14,516 positive cases, were reported during the past 24 hours across the country.

It took the number of deaths to 12,948 and total cases to 395,048.

This is the highest single day spike in terms of number of new COVID-19 cases in the country so far.

On Friday morning, the number of COVID-19 cases in the country was 380,532, and the death toll 12,573.

Indian gov't signs 750 mln USD agreement with AIIB for COVID-19 support

NEW DELHI, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Indian government Friday here signed an agreement worth 750 million U.S. dollars with Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to assist country strengthen its response to the adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on poor and vulnerable households.

The agreement is under the "COVID-19 Active Response and Expenditure Support Programme" of the AIIB.
