India: Cooperative banks to be brought under RBI supervision

New Delhi, Jun 24 (PTI) The government on Wednesday said all cooperative banks and multi-state cooperative banks will come under the supervision of the Reserve Bank of India, a development aimed at providing comfort to depositors of these banks.

Urban cooperative banks and multi-state cooperative banks will be brought under the RBI supervision process applicable to commercial banks, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said while briefing media about the Cabinet decisions.

"Depositor will be assured his money is safe," he said.

India: Man held for minor cousin's rape in UP's Fatehpur

Fatehpur (UP), Jun 24 (PTI) A 28-year-old man was arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur for allegedly raping his minor cousin, resulting in pregnancy, police said on Wednesday.

According to them, the crime allegedly took place seven months ago in the Fatehpur's Malwan area. The pregnancy was detected after the 14-year-old girl underwent an ultrasound, they said.

India: Woman abducted and raped in Chhattisgarh's Korba

Korba, Jun 24 (PTI) A 21-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and raped by a 32-year-old man in Chhattisgarh's Korba district, police said on Wednesday.

The main accused Bhaiyalal and two of his accomplices, who helped him abduct the woman, have been arrested, a police officer said.

The victim was abducted on June 19 night after she stepped out of her house to attend nature's call in a village under Pasaan police station limits, said Ram Kumar Rana, Station House Officer (SHO), Pasaan police station.

India calls in army to run facilities in Delhi as cases surge

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India reported 16,000 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, its highest daily increase since the outbreak began, and the government called in the army to manage new treatment centres with thousands of additional hospital beds in New Delhi.

At more than 456,000 confirmed coronavirus cases so far, India is the fourth worst hit country in the world, behind the United States, Brazil and Russia, according to a Reuters tally.

Cases are expected to keep rising as state governments ease restrictions in place since lockdown was first imposed in late March.

Delhi; 23 June 2020 (UMMN): The Delhi High Court has granted bail to Anti-CAA activist Safoora Zargar on purely “humanitarian grounds”.

27-year-old Zargar, Jamia Coordination Committee Media Coordinator is pregnant, and was arrested by the Delhi Police’s Special Cell on April 10 in a case related to communal violence in Northeast Delhi.

India: BJP MP and accused terrorist Pragya Thakur faints at party event

Bhopal, Jun 23 (PTI) BJP's Lok Sabha member from Bhopal Pragya Singh Thakur fainted during an event organised at party office here on Tuesday to pay tributes to Bharatiya Jan Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookherjee on his death anniversary.

The incident occurred when Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and other senior BJP leaders were paying tributes to Mookherjee at the event held at the party's state headquarters here.

India: People await heavy rainfalls in city's different areas

KANPUR: Intermittent rains mixed with a thunderstorm in the afternoon brought some relief from the hot weather but the humidity still maintains at 74%.

Feeling unease at the constant fluctuating temperature the people have started discussing the weather. They want enough quantity of rains to get rid of the abnormal conditions.

One bearded young resident told that we were still not experienced the rains as occurred in Lucknow.
