India: Two girls raped in Uttar Pradesh in separate cases

Banda/Chitrakoot, June 29 (PTI) Two girls were allegedly raped by their uncles in separate incidents in Uttar Pradesh's Banda and Chitrakoot, police said on Monday.

In Banda, a nine-year-old girl was abducted by her uncle from her home on Saturday night while she was sleeping, they said.

He allegedly took her to a forest and raped her, SHO of Tindwari police station Ram Dinesh Tiwari said.

India: BJP MLA from Rewa tests positive for coronavirus

Rewa (MP), Jun 29 (PTI) A BJP MLA from Rewa in Madhya Pradesh test positive for novel coronavirus on Monday, district chief medical health officer RS Pandey said.

Three legislators, two from the BJP and one from the Congress, have been detected with the infection this month.

The swab sample of the MLA was collected on Sunday and contract tracing had begun as per protocol, Pandey informed.

The MLA had earlier said he was going into self- isolation after a fellow legislator from Mandsaur tested positive for the virus on June 20.

India: Monkey hanged to death in Telangana

Hyderabad, Jun 29 (PTI): In a case of extreme brutality, a monkey was hanged to death from a tree by three people in a bid to scare other simians in Khammam district of Telangana, about 275 KM from here, forest department officials said on Monday.

"The perpetrators, who admitted their guilt, are being booked under the Wildlife Protection Act," Sathupalli Forest Range Officer A Venkateswarlu said.

India: Lockdown extended till July 31 in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Jun 29 (PTI) Maharashtra government on Monday said the lockdown in the state is being extended till July 31.

The current lockdown was to end on June 30. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had on Sunday ruled out lifting the lockdown from that date.

An order issued by Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta on Monday said wearing face covers or masks, maintaining social distancing, restricted gatherings, and other measures shall continue to prevail.

The state government has also advised that work from home should be followed as far as possible.

India: Single-day spike of 19,459 COVID-19 cases takes tally to 5,48,318

New Delhi, Jun 29 (PTI) A single-day spike of 19,459 COVID-19 cases took India's tally to 5,48,318 on Monday, while the death toll climbed to 16,475 with 380 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data

This is the sixth consecutive day that coronavirus infections have increased by more than 15,000. The country has seen a surge of 3,57,783 infections from June 1 till date

The number of active cases stands at 2,10,120, while 3,21,722 people have recovered, and one patient has migrated, according to the updated data

India: Minor girl raped by criminal in MP, critical

Raisen (MP), Jun 27 (PTI) A five-year old tribal girl has been raped allegedly her 30-year-old history-sheeter relative out on bail in a village in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh, police said on Saturday.

The assault has left the girl critically injured who has been admitted in the district hospital, an officer said, adding that the accused has been arrested.

India: BJP MLA in UP tests positive for coronavirus infection

Sultanpur, Jun 27 (PTI) BJP MLA Devmani Dwivedi has tested positive for coronavirus infection, his family members said on Saturday.

Dwivedi represents Lambhua assembly constituency of Sultanpur district.

"A few days back, Dwivedi's health had deteriorated and he was admitted to a hospital in Sadar area of Lucknow. The doctors suggested him to undertake COVID-19 test. The test was conducted, and he tested positive for COVID-19. He has been shifted to KGMU for treatment," Dwivedi's brother Chintamani said.
