India: SSP rank officer suspended in J-K

Jammu, Aug 16 (PTI) An officer of the rank of senior superintendent of police, working as a board member for recruitment of constables in the Jammu and Kashmir border battalions, was suspended on Monday for exhibiting conduct unbecoming of an officer.

An order issued by the J&K Home department said Commandant IR-8th Battalion Maqsood ul Zaman has been put under suspension with immediate effect.

India: Security increased outside Afghan embassy in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 16 (PTI) The Delhi Police on Monday beefed up security outside the Afghan embassy in central Delhi's Chanakyapuri, a day after the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.

Several Afghan nationals visited the embassy. Some mediapersons too gathered outside it. "To manage them and keep the situation normal, security was increased outside the embassy. However, we have no threat inputs as of now, a senior police officer said.

India: UP woman attempt self-immolation outside SC after raped by MP

New Delhi, Aug 16 (PTI) A 27-year-old man and a woman allegedly attempted suicide outside the Supreme Court here on Monday by setting themselves on fire, police said.

The man sustained 65 per cent burn injuries, while the 24-year-old woman suffered 85 per cent burns. None of them are medically fit to record their police statements, they said.

The police said the woman is from Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur and was allegedly raped by Bahujan Samaj Party MP Atul Rai in 2019.

The IIT-K initiative to promote entrepreneurship and innovation by converting ideas into products is spearheaded by Foundation for Research & Innovation in Science & Technology (FIRST), a Section-8 company, supported by the august institute.

India: Woman set on fire by molester's paents dies in UP

Mahoba (UP), Aug 17 (PTI) A 30-year-old woman, who was allegedly set on fire by parents of a man booked in a molestation case lodged by the victim, died during treatment in a hospital, police said on Tuesday

The woman, who was set on fire on Sunday in Thatewara viillage in Kulpahad area, died in Jhansi medical college on Monday, Station House Officer (SHO) Kulpahad Mahendra Pratap Singh said.

Angry over the registration of the case against their son, the parents of the accused poured kerosene over the woman and set her afire, police said.

India: UP govt setting up ATS training centre in Deoband

Lucknow, Aug 17 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to set up a training centre for Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) commandos in Saharanpur's Deoband, known for its Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband.

"Amid the Taliban's savagery, here is a piece of news from UP. Yogi Ji has decided to open a commando training centre in Deoband. The work has also started on a war footing," UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's media advisor Shalabh Mani Tripathi said in a tweet in Hindi.

India brings back its envoy, officials from Kabul

New Delhi, Aug 17 (PTI) India on Tuesday rushed back home its ambassador and staff from the embassy in Kabul in a military transport aircraft in the wake of escalating tension, fear and uncertainty gripping the Afghan capital after its take over by the Taliban two days back.

The C-17 Globemaster aircraft of the Indian Air Force carrying around 150 people, including diplomats, officials, security personnel and some stranded Indians, landed at the Hindon airbase near the national capital at around 5 PM after a brief halt at Jamnagar in Gujarat.

India: Delhi to soon have roads of European standards

New Delhi, Aug 17 (PTI) Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and PWD Minister Satyendar Jain on Tuesday visited a road stretch in Chirag Delhi that has been redeveloped according to European standards and said it will be replicated across the city, according to an official statement.

The 800-metre Chirag Delhi-Sheikh Sarai road has been redeveloped with a cycle track by the Public Works Department (PWD) based on European parameters of public space design.

India: HAL Kanpur executes trial of Hindustan-228 civil aircraft

Kanpur: With an objective to strengthen the regional connectivity, the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has successfully carried out the Ground Run and Low-Speed Taxi Trials of the Hindustan-228 (VT-KNR) aircraft for DGCA 'Type Certification', informs the HAL.

The event was marked as part of India's Independence Day celebrations on August 15 at HAL's Kanpur facility.

Sajal Prakash, CEO, HAL's Accessories Complex, said that the ground run and taxi trail was an important milestone for the first fixed-wing, Made-in-India civil aircraft in the country.
